He's injured. Not many players do play when they are injured you know.

No. But, IMO, Rooney isn't an out and out striker. He plays best just off a main striker. Which brings us back to why the Dutch megalomaniac sold RVP?

LVG hasn't got a clue. He sold RVP and Hernandez and paid an unbelievable amount for an untested 19 year old to support and ageing and misfiring Rooney.

I know some people want to criticise Wenger for not buying a striker, but when you look at what was actually available, it speaks volumes.

A lot of your fans won't be happy untill Wenger does spunk 30million up the wall on a useless player.

  9. It's not simply the failure of Wenger to to spend the money that (supposedly) is available to him, in the market, but his apparent refusal to accept that there are deficiencies in his squad, if Arsenal is to be considered a serious challenge, in either the domestic league or the CL. That's what is causing the anger among a significant, and increasingly vocal, element of Gooners.

The supposed targets seemed completely unrealistic, but what happened to Wenger's famed ability to spot a young prospect?
Why can't he go out and pick up a top youngster to fill that gap?
For someone that claims to have noticed Bale, Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic and the like before anyone else, he's missing a trick.

Seeing teams offering £10m+ for Benik Afobe six months after you sold him for £2m must be galling.
Watching him score 32 goals last season must've puzzled a few people, too.

  11. The "Hurra" Kane replacing Rooney, for England.

    Get used that, people!

Great finish dinking it over a dustman while holding off a bus driver. Just needs to start doing it against real footballers.

I think a player like Martial would have been Wenger's top youngster in years gone by. Apparently he had been tracking him. Unfortunately since the days of the 'throw as much money and see what sticks' approach of Chelsea, City and Utd, signing young promising talent without spending a fortune is no longer an option.

Spotting somebody playing for Monaco in the Champions League against Arsenal in a tie which his team won is hardly unearthing a gem though, is it?
Even managing to pick him out from Lyon's youth team wouldn't have been much of an achievement.

Wenger's signings in recent years have tended towards established talents or well-known and expensive youngsters.
Cech, Arteta, Mertesacker, Sanchez and Ozil fall into the former camp, while Welbeck, Chambers and Oxlade-Chamberlain would tend toward the latter.
He seems to be chucking money at the problem in the same way as the clubs that you're bemoaning.

  16. The reason why Wenger started buying established names is because the fans, as well as becoming restless with never challenging for the title or getting anywhere in the CL, were becoming extremely vocal, and calling into question the club's ambition. It's been abundantly clear, for most of Wenger's time at Arsenal, that he's not going to win anything with a team of youngsters. Indeed, when he started to invest in experienced players, suddenly, he wins something.

However, there clearly remains a strong reluctance on his part to splash the cash. He piss-poor excuse is that he won't waste money on getting in a player who isn't better than what he already has; but all that is doing is saying, in another way, that he won't spend what it takes to improve his squad - which is the way he has always operated! He offered silly money for Benzema, because he knew that there was no way Real would let him leave.

If I was a Gooner, I'd want rid of Wenger asap, but that is unlikely to happen unless Arsenal finish outside the top 4.

Wenger could of course try the Spurs transfer kitty method - which is spend all the available transfer kitty money in one go by buying a shedload of players and then keep your fingers crossed that one or two might be half decent, and the rest you sell a season later for less than half what you paid for them !

Taking lessons from the Spuds on transfer strategies would be like taking marital advice from John Terry.

In fact, they've been ****ed over so many times, I reckon Terry has probably had Levy in the sack too

  19. ...because Wenger's transfer policy has been a blinding success with the fans, and when translated into CL and title-challenge results!
    <doh>

    You dozy, arrogant Gooners!

It's obviously worked for him. He's won the title 3 times, the FA cup 6 times and the double twice. He's won more titles in his tenure that you spuds have in your entire history.

Whereas your approach has been to spunk loads of cash up the wall and sack 12 managers <laugh>
