See this is why we need a non works team power unit. Red Bull should take on Honda while bernie tempts in VW Toyota BMW and ford back into the sport. There is too much class split in the F1 ranks. NO MORE B TEAMS I want to see all teams competing

Cosworth had a 2014 engine design, which is still valid. It's obviously way off the pace, but it's a start.

Not an original thought, but Red Bull could buy Cosworth, and develop that engine to be ready for the 2017 season when their Renault deal runs out.

she does nothing for me at all, plus I imagine she's hard work. She probably pauses during sex every few minutes to check herself in the mirror.

Feel bad for Verstappen but that's got to be a big fine for the team.

With rosberg using the slower older engine., triple wdc Hamilton has this in the bag.

All things considered Rosberg has done pretty well to get within 3 tenths of the fastest F1 driver with the upgraded power unit, when having to use a 6 race old engine. That has to be one of the best quali sessions for a while and a fantastic job by Ferrari!

Why do I get the feeling Mercedes is going to get their strategy completely wrong again? If Rosberg doesn't get ahead of the Ferraris before the first stops they will need to pit him early to try to jump both Ferrari. This should be very interesting indeed. Will the Mercedes pitwall cock up again? It's anybody's guess.

I think with Hamiltons 1 lap pace and his race pace, regardless of strategy - he will win this comfortably. The only chance of a race is if the Ferraris can either lead or hope that if they push Lewis he may have to pit twice, but that's a long shot.

I think all year Ferrari's race pace has been closer to their quali pace than Mercedes have, they're also better on their tyres.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a Ferrari 1-2 tbh.

lol, Rosberg calling Hamilton out for his PR bollocks.

Hamilton must be having a sleepless night though...

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff says that the team did not detune Hamilton's unit in qualifying in order to protect it.

"We ran Lewis's engine like we would normally run it in qualifying," said Wolff. "There wasn't any conservatism because we simply don't know what the root cause of the problem on Nico's engine was. And we don't think it was performance related.

"In terms of Lewis's engine [for the race], we haven't identified the problem. There is still a big question mark about what's actually happened, and the potential risks for tomorrow."

However, Wolff admitted that should a serious issue be discovered, in the most extreme case the team could yet change Hamilton's engine, a move that would relegate him to a pitlane start.

"It was clear that today even if we found out what the problem was we couldn't change two engines [before qualifying], so we did it on Nico's car.

"If we find out that it's a major issue or it's something that could put Lewis's race at risk, this would be certainly something that we would consider, because our car has great pace, and it's better to play it safe.

Would love the Ferraris to jump ahead and for the race to really close up as a result, but this track lends itself more towards Merc engines and Lewis may get more passing opportunity than Hungary.

The concern over his engine must be the bigger issue here. Finishing 3rd behind 2 Ferraris and extending the gap over Nico wont be a bad day whatsoever- retiring, having a problem, or changing the engine and starting in the pits would be chaotic.

a 3rd Ferrari win of the season and one at their home race really would make their season above expectation. Still very surprised to see their pace within 3 tenths of Lewis. Is that a further upgrade on their engine too, or did the rain de-rubber the track and close the pack up?

They used tokens too but it went under the radar - I think it was focused on their recovery and deployment.

In many ways I'd rather be in Rosbergs shoes than Hamiltons right now. Better to be fourth with a working engine than on pole with a engine that could be on the blink for an unknown reason.

I assume Rosberg has gone to a previous PU, otherwise he's just put his fourth into the pool, which will effect him for the rest of the season.

0.3s behind in quali was a good effort. Either Mercedes are telling the truth and performance wise the engines are the same, or Rosberg did well/Hamilton did not. The average gap this season has been about 0.25s so otherwise it's to be expected.

All adds drama to tomorrow at least.

It's worth noting that Hamilton didn't improve on his final lap (he was a couple of hundredths down), my guess is he made a small mistake at Parabolica and he's actually got a couple of tenths in his pocket. Then again, anything can happen at the first corner (and it usually does)!
