    'Monk the Magnificent' strikes again..................................<party><party><party>

He certainly answered his critics (including me) in no uncertain terms, really pleased for Monk and our lads, who says we cannot compete at the very top, and a big thank you to Huw Jenkins and our board once again for keeping the Swansea lights burning brighter every season, long may we be a beacon of hope to all the smaller clubs who wish to aspire to greater things............<cheers>

I think that's a fair point Phil. I genuinely think the wider public are sick of the billionaires buying success and smaller clubs can do no worse by following our template for success. Buy low, encourage youth, sell high if you have to sell at all. Play attractive football along the way and it's a proven recipe for success.

I think the Swansea fans have had a huge part to play in encouraging the Board and not demanding big name signings - that's half the problem with other clubs imo.

Indeed there is a ground swell of opinion adverse to the increasing influence of billionaires, and we have shown that there is indeed another way, and that other way has increasingly made us everyone's second team, at last the status quo is being questioned and the public love it. I would never want to play poker with Huw, he has the Midas touch where managers are concerned............<ok>

Monk is already being tipped as a future England manager and that will be sooner than what we all think. He has a bright future in management that i have no doubt....I hope when he does finally leave we give someone else at the club a chance, someone like Rangel or Leon maybe...

Well, not wishing to piss on your parade, but statistics would clearly indicate that G.M. has no claim to being the best Manager .

From Wikipedia - Club/ team honours. Not including sundry honours, viz,Manager of the season/month,etc.

    Pellegrini - 9 team honours.

    Wenger - 19 ditto.

    Maurinho - 21 ditto.

    Van Gaal - 19 ditto.

    Monk - None.

Clearly not all the honours achieved by the first four named were earned in the P.L.,but they do show a worthy output of achievements.
So,love them, or loathe them, they are all in a different class to Monk.

Interesting that Talk Sport, generally referred to as "Talkshite" by many on here, and elsewhere, is now being quoted as if they are the hallowed press.

As Monk has only been in management for 18 months he's hardly had the chance to accumulate 21 trophies, has he?

Therefore, a much fairer analysis would have been to compare how many trophies the others had won in their first 18 months of management. Probably none, none, none and none. I haven't checked.

By the same token, then, since he has only been in management for 18 months, how ON EARTH can he be described as "the best"?
It's a nonsensical statement to make, but hey,Talkshite say it - so it must be true.

Why not check what,if any, honours, the other four managers achieved in their first 18 months? Good idea.
Then you would have a point of reference. Currently, you have none.

I always had you pegged as a reasonably intelligent person, but your desire to be one of the gang/clique is making me re evaluate that opinion. <peacedove>

No,it's not,and I'm surprised you have made such an absurd statement.
Since the team I follow doesn't have many trophies in it's cabinet, ( thanks Michael for The League Cup), it cannot be the case.

Britton would be a very good choice. A seemless transition, again. I'm sure Jenkins is thinking something similar.

Don't be bashful. The "other way" that you refer to is now commonly referred to as "The Swansea Way".

Great post there, dragon. Somebody must ghost written it for you? <laugh>

Vetch, you are like Hannibal Lechter - playing with other peoples minds :emoticon-0112-wonde I shall make an appointment with a psychiatrist to check I'm still "normal"...

P.S. For the avoidance of doubt, by saying the above I was not insinuating that Dragon and Stumpy are not "normal". Well, maybe Phil....<laugh>

Whose minds am I playing with? Not yours, surely. I thought you were tougher than that.
I see things differently on occasions. Now that doesn't make me right, but my opinions are as valid as yours,or anyone else's.
Sad to read such posts from you, aswan. Stop taking life,on here,so seriously. It's only a bloody game of football. <peacedove>

    Is that all you've got ? <laugh>

You quote managers who have been so for decades. Are you not aware of this? Are you not aware that they are the old guard and all of them, just like Monk, started their careers as managers not having won anything.

So, go back to wikipedia and research when Pellegrini, Wenger, Maurinho, Van Gaal won their first cups and also the team they won them with. Importantly research how long they were managing when they won their said awards. Also, find out how long they have been managers for <ok>

Monk has been our manager and in control for less than two season. To quote just a few of Monks achievements in that time, he has:

Revolutionised our play adding steel and defense,

Built a solid squad on very little money

Nurtured a culture of respect and togetherness in the changing room

Lead us to our highest position in the best league in the world

Are you seriously attempting to deny all of Monks achievements, a difficult thing to do because all of the above is written in history. You got to come up with better than this. If you want to snipe at Monk then you have got to have something. Please, give us a game at least, because beating you is all too easy at the moment

I await the results of your homework with interest <ok>

I think the point is being missed. Surely the article was only saying that on current form, with the resources at his disposal and the type of football we play (not to mention Monk's fast-growing tactical nous) he is the best Premier League Manager at the moment.

Past glories are fantastic to look back on but that's just it - they're in the past. That's why top managers who have achieved so much still get the sack.
