The reason I don't rush to update is that several times it has frozen the whole computer and the only way out (within my limited abilities) was to restore it to a time when it did work. I think one time it got really cross with me as, instead of asking, it just dived straight into an update with me screaming 'you bastard' at it, which caused no problems at all...except I then had to live with a very smug computer.
One of the problems with the "Flood" of migrants is that we're not being offered a sense of scale. So here goes. There's one asylum seeker this far this year for every 1,900 people in the EU. A third of them end up turned down, which takes it to around one for every 2,850. So, even if the UK took its share (which it doesn't), Southampton's population would balloon from 253,651 to a massive 253,740. Would that huge influx of ... 89 people across Southampton ... really swamp our services, roads, etc? Vin
I think the problem is aggravated by the fact that we are aware that we have subversives living within our midst (who have even been here for more than one generation)...wrong I know, but you can't help throwing similar looking people into the same category. Perhaps we could do a people swap...we take deserving people in fear of their lives and exchange them for ingrates who want to live there.
Probably not... but they're not being dispersed across Southampton. If you live on the council estate that 10 families have been homed in you could be pissed off, especially as the estate already has more than its fair share of unemployed people on benefits. A lot of middle class people have no problem with immigration because they will literally never see an immigrant unless they come round to fix their plumbing or deliver their take away.
The U.S. took 1,000 Syrian refugees last year and are upping it to 8,000. Seems we're not the only somewhat culpable ones that aren't doing enough.
It's very hard though...Americans are wary of importing anyone from that part of the world. You don't know if you are allowing terrorists in as well....remember we have them in our midst with all neighbours expressing surprise when something happens. Pity they don't grow horns so we can recognise them. And Americans are even more insular than we are. Ps. I do know we are talking about a tiny minority here.

Get in a taxi in Southampton and ask the driver where he's from. 50:50 he's Afghani or Kurdish. Murray 2 sets down to Mannarino of France. Even allowing for the Frenchman's brilliance (and he is good), Murray is missing stuff he would normally make in his sleep. Murray has said he has never returned so badly in his life...and he's not wrong.
So, I watched the Labour leadership debate. They were all terrible. None of them will win a general election. Edit: Which is, of course, excellent news.
Labour have a theory that if you lose an election because the electorate find you too left wing, the only thing to do is become more left wing. That way you satisfy your 'true' supporter, but doesn't help with the fact that there aren't enough of them.
Murray breaks in 4th set. It's like a zombie movie...Murray looks dead, but keeps getting up. Not a racquet you need to beat him, but a ruddy shovel. Impressed by Frenchman though.
Fifth set it is. Mannarino virtually gave up his last service game to save himself for the fifth. Murray always looks dead, but is one of the fittest on the circuit.
There seems to be this bizarre belief among some Corbynites that there exists a large, silent block of left wing voters just desperate for a proper lefty to vote for.
Murray wins 6-1...which is what I would have predicted. He usually wins long rallies and long matches...so fit.
NATO started the problem when they invaded Afghanistan and Iraq in 2001 and 2003, respectively. The disruption in these countries have proved to be a failure, and subsequently, people have understood the true purpose of the invasion and the cost it has had, both socially and financially on the countries affected and the ones involved in these acts of illegal war. Now, when we look at Syria, we can see the same problem. Even though NATO hasn't invaded this country directly with troops on the ground, it has helped with the utter destruction of the state of Syria by supporting the so called "rebels", AKA, ISIS, Al-Nusra etc.... these groups have gained significant support from the west in terms of armament, money etc. Assad is no saint, but at least Syria had some sort of peace before the civil war broke out and now the country is destroyed. We, the west, shouldn't have to receive the burden of these refugees. The government betrayed us, the people aren't responsible.
