I'm probably being overly optimistic but I remember a number of times when people had a meltdown after other TDDs. Last season it was Liverpool and all their signings who had everyone excited, before that the Spuds who were due to leave us in their dust after the Bale spending spree. I personally remember thinking Di Maria would tear the league up so I'm as guilty as the next man.

I'm just going to chill out until the end of the season I reckon and see how things pan out. Obviously, we'll never get over having coming dead last in the transfer window but I guess we'll have to just muddle on with some actual football - yawn..

I almost ALMOST want to see Arsenal win the league just to see you choking on the amount of humble pie you'd have to eat. Almost. But not quite.

In football, eating humble pie is the greatest thing, i'd be more than happy to eat humble pie, football is the only area where most people don't mind being proven wrong if it's their team, i'd gladly love to be wrong and for Wenger to prove me wrong by winning the league or in Europe.

Arsenal are not prepared to spend the silly money clubs want for players, being more cautious than many of the other clubs with money to spend. Clubs around the world know how wealthy the top PL clubs are and demand ridiculous fees for players who show promise. Look at de Bruyne. And Martial <yikes> They have proved nothing yet. Neither would be ranked among the best players in the world. At present, neither improves their new team. They might prove to be great players, but City and Utd have spent a hell of a lot of money to find out.

Is it better to have spent little, not really strengthened, but have the money available to spend in the next window or next summer or to have been panicked into spending top dollar on whichever promising player could be prised away from their club for a king's ransom? The former in my view.

Look people ARE being overly dramatic (including myself) - we ARE capable of challenging even without a WC striker.

Sanchez is capable of having a 30+ goal Season which would possibly make up for Girouds lack of efficiency. Particularly if Ramsey and Walcott chip with a good number of goals.

It's unlikely though, unless we see dramatic improvement from the Frenchman or Wellbeck comes in and does a job.

Agree with this. As frustrating as this window was for Arsenal fans. I'm glad we didn't panic and go out and spend stupid money on an unproven striker. We've seen Liverpool, Utd, and Spurs waste huge amounts of money in recent seasons on players who have done nothing to improve them. I'd much rather we waited until we can get the player we want at a price that isn't silly.

I understand the ST situation a little bit, even though I think if we went in for Cavani earlier there was a small chance we'd get him. But I can live without a ST tbh, as I believe only a matter of time before we start firing again. My biggest thing here is why we got no cover for our Coq. Illaramendi was sold back to Sociedad for about £13M. Wanyama wanted out. Kondogbia was available for a bit. The Sevilla dude was gettable. I don't think AW had any intention to bu anyone.

With the latest news surrounding Welbeck, and the fact we knew a week in advance that he was going to be out for a while, does anyone still doubt we lack ambition to truly challenge for the title and the big trophies?

Don't know about the rest of you, but starting a season with only 1 fit striker, doesn't scream of AMBITION.

It's become miserable under Wenger, the specialist in disappointment.

Difficult to defend Arsenal (not just Wenger) in this instance.

27/8: "Welbeck is progressing well. He should be available, if all goes well, after the international break."

3/9: "It had been hoped he would avoid surgery but... the decision was taken last week for him to undergo surgery."

Admittedly "last week" could be Sunday. But even then, Thursday's "progressing well" seems at best deluded and at worst an outright lie.

Taken from Gingers for Limpar on twitter. Somewhere in that car crash he's been included into our Champions League group stages team too...

We've all heard the same diagnosis for many other players in the past, something is definitely not right with our medical staff here, this isnt the first time this has happened.

Personally I think as soon as we heard that he'd "be out for a couple of days" back at the start of the summer, we should have just taken him out and shot him, it would have been far kinder...
