Anyone who has being watching Big Blue on BBC may be as excited as me by this: Wow! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ear...or-the-first-time-in-waters-off-Cornwall.html
May be gone for a while. Computer has to be plugged into work...no problem, but then that wasn't good enough without jiggling cable to make connection...now that doesn't work...so have to go on new computer hunt.
To Vin's point - a bit more explanation required I think. I, for one, don't agree - there are stable middle east countries standing by doing nothing (as per the cartoon Beefy posted) and expecting the - ahem - "rich" countries to help out. This is an issue where the whole world needs to come together and sort it out, including those who are ignoring what's happening in their own back yard ................
Wonderful news. A midst all the poaching and deforestation going on its nice to see some success stories. Between Whales and news stories about wolves rather rapidly retaking the mainland of Europe one can be a little hopeful that we can fix some of our mistakes of the past.
I see no contradiction. Canada turned down this family, but that doesn't make Canada responsible for what happened either. The people responsible are back in their homeland...that is the place to start...make their own countries more habitable for people of different faiths and races. This is easier said than done I know as we can never be sure that there won't be unforeseen consequences for well intentioned actions. I wish that people in this region (and those in power in Africa as well) would actually care about their own people, but that wish seems forlorn. Perhaps we would be able to help people such as this more if we weren't being inundated with people from poorer parts of Europe (who certainly don't need the same kind of compassion). I voted for joining the EU when it seemed to make good financial sense....unforeseen consequences again. However, I'm not sure I'd vote to come out because we are ineradicably tied...just as the more sensible Scots realised as well.

That really seems to be the heart of the issue, the fact the solid percentage of the refugees aren't actually fleeing a war zone or active persecution. A news report in Germany claimed the majority of a large group of recent 'refugees' came from Morocco, Albania and other Balkan regions i.e. not war zones or areas of mass persecution. I have no problem with western nations taking large numbers of genuine refugees but it really does seem like a lot are just hoping to try their luck in a richer country/region.
Have squeezed a bit more electricity down the cable, but the pooter is on borrowed time. My language has not been pretty. Just hate the idea of house training another computer....you should be able to buy a new one and just switch it on....none of this introducing it to your printer and internet hub (as I have now forgotten how I did that). Had to buy a new printer with this computer as I couldn't make it work with the old one....buggered if I'll buy another. The new computer will just have to get along with its new friends. Sorry if this rant is too technical for you.
Agree with all this. I bought a new computer a while back and went from Windows XP to Windows 8. I had no idea where anything was as they are ridiculously different and also had to connect my other bits to it. The printer was too old so I had to buy a new one and introduce it to my new PC. Luckily they seem to like each other so far but it's all a pain in the arse if you really just want to turn it on and use it like I do.
And this is aggravated by many belonging to a religion that doesn't conform to our way of life. I realise that is not true of them all as many fit in well, but they do have more nutcases than the average population. We need to make it clear that they conform to our core standards (not concerned about details) as that is what good guests do.
And I finally learnt to never ever update anything, because it only banjaxes your computer. I laugh in the face of all those offers to update to Windows 10....though presumably my new computer will have moved on. The mistake is leaving computer development solely in the hands of experts...they introduce things without the slightest consideration for the average person who doesn't know that you have to remove the oojamaflip before you can use the wotsit because 'everyone knows that.' Do you know what....I don't and I don't particularly want to.
Sympathies Fran, I'm also looking at buying a new printer now due my old (2yrs!) one sulking with some versions of Windows. I was going to post re these laptops - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Zoostorm-...-7-Computer-/331616258207?hash=item4d35de889f during a recent Windows 10 comment. They are described as 'kids' computers but are in fact rather rugged little machines which come with Win7 and a free upgrade to Windows 10 available. You may wish to increase the memory and they're not going to play HD video, but at less than £60 all in they are a nice backup. I bought 2, one each for my daughters, who are using them for 6th form. The screen is also a touchscreen, which I find a bit strange. I got mine for £50 at Morgan Computers but they're out of stock there. Still some left on ebay though.
Agreed. Everyone has a right to hold onto their cutoms etc (provided that its not harming anyone) but when you make a conscious decision to move somewhere you cant expect everyone thats native to change for you. It most definitely is the minority that don't do it that smears the rest unfortunately. I really hope EU leaders do try some harder control and prevention measures, in part because its being exploited by people who aren't genuine refugees but mostly for sake of moderation and reason. Situations like this have the unfortunate effect of voters flocking to politically extreme parties...namely far-right ****wits out of panic and fear.
There is also the concern that without the 'refugees' being properly processed we have no idea who is coming into Europe. They may be genuine refugees from Syria etc but without proper scrutiny how do we know they are not criminals or terrorists taking advantage of the situation? If I was a terrorist - which I'm not by the way - I'd be looking at the channel tunnel for example and thinking this is such an easy target. We have security at airports for a reason and we shouldn't be letting everyone into Europe without the suitable checks. Once that is done then asylum if appropriate can be granted. Unfortunately I can't see the European countries ever all agreeing on a way forward because they naturally all have their own issues to deal with. Hopefully they will prove me wrong.
That's totally the opposite of what you should be doing. Despite the best advice, only some people will take heed and some won't. Despite many attempts by various manufacturers, computers are still a techie product. They are simply too versatile and capable to be distilled down to the simplicity of a TV or appliance. Agreed there is an awful lot of rubbish spoken and written about computers. But there are two easy things to remember. 1] If you have a computer that never ever connects to the Internet then you almost certainly never need to update it, upgrade it, do anything. Even Win98 should be fine. XP certainly would. Being largely solid state, it should last for years, trouble free. 2] If you use a computer on the Internet, on-line banking, making purchases, or simply surfing the Net, then the average user has to keep their computer bang upto speed. It's that simple. On the subject of Win 10 over Win 7. It is faster and more secure and will be supported by Microsoft for a lot longer. It's free and a no brainer decision to change to. Make sure the computer is as updated as it possibly can be before the change is made and there will be no problems. MS ask people to do this, and those that don't get problems. However, not changing will eventually cost you. Or you could go to Apple and pay top price for everything.
Since, despite being Microsoft sceptic, I have turned into the local chap who will help you update to Windows 10 these days, I would agree with this on the whole. After several updates only one has caused problems as the trackpad stopped working. It did allow me however to test the downgrade option which returned it to Win7 within 20 mins. I'm sure with mucking about with drivers the issue could've been resolved but the owner just wanted it back working, pronto. Shame about Apple, they are now more lifestyle than computer company. Until about 2008 there were still ways to get refurbished Apple gear at reasonable prices. My girls cut their computer teeth on original iMacs and eMacs. They took a lot of abuse, not sure if the current models could cope. My favorite computer of all time was an Apple Duo 270c powerbook, even got it connected to the internet using IE3 in 1999!
