I repeat what I posted yesterday, this is the beginning of the end for Poch. His chairman hand failed to land him his desired signing in what is a critical transfer window at this stage of his career with us. Once again, I assure you Poch was desperate for this player so to come out with the touching of his cap today to Levy is pathetic. I will make no further comment own this matter.

If we build on the performance we saw against Everton then there cannot be too many complaints. As I have said before we have an exciting young squad full of potential and all are comfortable on the ball as far as I can see. Even in recent years we have not always been able to say that. Sorry to see Lennon go because he has been a very good player for us but we have added what appear to be two fast forward players, so we have moved on.
I don't think many of us would disagree with the players who left and again that has not always been the case. All in all I don't think MP has done a lot wrong so far, and hopefully he will develop with the squad. He needs at least another season and preferably another two to give him a realistic chance to build something. Is he a yes man, I don't know, but most management in all walks of life are. If you start saying no too often you don't get the job. The only managers who can afford to be 'no men' are the Fergies and Cloughs of this world and there are not too many of them.

Levy: "Importantly, we also needed to keep our key players. That meant reducing the squad number,"

That explains Kane getting the number 10 shirt and I guess it was difficult to get a lower number for Lloris. If only we'd thought of doing this before with Bale, Modric and Berba!

Poch got shafted by Levy, just like BMJ,Harry and AvB did when it came to key transfer targets.

That's fair enough OS and I won't push the issue any more. But can I ask you a question out of sheer curiosity:

If we'd shifted Lennon, Adebayor and Lamela before the window closed, do you think Levy would've pushed the Berahino deal over the line?

I think it's pretty apparent at this stage that Peace wasn't going to sell him. He refused Levy, he refused Saido and he refused his own manager when they all wanted the transfer to go ahead.

Berahino isn't Messi or Ronaldo. We should of had another target in mind and moved onto it long before deadline day. Ridiculous and it will come back to bite us in the backside.

Can't disagree with that, just saying that Peace dug his foxhole and wasn't budging.

Sometimes I think Spurs fans want the earth...Mars too..not to forget Jupiter.

Always trying to look for some axe to wield over Levy's head. Basically Levy is ****ed unless he gets what the majority of fans want..with no alternatives considered.

I don't think Levy has shafted Pochettino as many would like to wish. I also notice a few posters have just got it in for Poch and bite onto anything that will make him look weak. These are the type that come from Uranus.

On a regular basis, We finish behind two teams that are bankrolled and two teams with massive match day revenue. We are aiming to achieve such a status....we are in the process of..on the ****ing journey towards.....if I can think of any other ways to make this same point I'll update this!

We have just spent 34 million on two players that I believe will relieve the pressure off Kane. Yes Levy is a tight fisted basterd because he won't spend 36 mill on some French kid that was worth 14 mill a month ago. What a **** he won't bend over to some twat who obviously thought he will take the piss because Spurs need an out and out striker.

Ohh and as for Poch what a weakling...he should have walked because Levy has shafted him. If he had anything about him he should have said '**** the stadium, Darth. I don't care what we pay..I want Berahino...I'm not bothered that you aspire to help Spurs get a shiny new stadium which should result in us going toe to toe with the regular top 4.

Maybe Poch wants the honour of leading Spurs into our new stadium and is working with Levy in order to get this!!! And also remaining competitive.

We will be 5th or thereabouts..where we belong.

Well done Levy and Poch <applause>

Exactly. Which is why I'm so confused as to the outrage some posters have against Levy not getting the Saido deal over the line when all evidence points to the fact that he could've bid £30m or even more and Peace still wanted war. (I'm here all evening folks).

Mourinho bid way, WAY over the odds for Stones and they're the reigning champions AND can pay him five times what we'd be paying Saido, and they STILL didn't get him. Why? Because TV money is rapidly making this league a more level playing field, which I for one am delighted to see.

What I DO get is the outrage at the failure to bring in any viable alternatives. Pochettinos line about only wanting players who will improve the team doesn't wash as we all know we wanted a back up striker, not a player to replace Kane.

I don't envy todays managers.Couple of bad results and they could be gone....anywhere.
A case in mind. The Real Madrid thing. They kick out the former Chelsea man,who had previously won "everything" and replace him with the Waiter. Why?Because they had a heck of a time with injuries which cost them.Have you noticed the difference this season now that Modric is back (and several others)?....which,no doubt, will make our waiter friend a genius.

Net spend of around £5million and the squad looks bare in more than one area.

We won't be near 5th this season.

    Well done Levy and Poch??

I can't really imagine any manager coming out with anything very different to what Poch said.

And if he came out and said "Well that was a cock-up - doubt we'll do well with this squad now" he would be rightly crucified on here.

I'll criticize Poch for tactics/selections/substitutions etc but one thing I'll say is that I've not read or heard him ever give a lot away in public. The fact he just gives stock responses to the press and never seems to shoot his mouth off is a good thing in my opinion. Of course he doesn't say what he means. That's OK. I just want him to manage the team well and produce good football and results. He doesn't owe the press or the fans, come to that, any kind of media sparkle or even frankness. Interviews and statements to the website? Just not a part of his performance I care about.

I don't particularly blame Levy for not getting Berahino but I blame him for not having alternatives, I don't buy that Poch is happy with Kane and then Sonny and Clint as alternatives.
Peace was acting in an unprofessional manner and seemed to make the whole process a personal one, I think he ended up rejecting our bids just to be "the man that stood up to Levy" more so than actually finding the bids derisory.
As for net spend, I don't get why there's such an issue with this for some, we still paid out around £50m on new signings and when I saw SSN on deadline day, we were the 6th highest spenders in the league as of about 2-3 hours before the deadline shut (don't think it changed either) so the fact it was a small net spend should be praised, yes we needed one more striker but we still managed to strengthen other areas while shifting players that were at times not making the 18 man selection on match days. Our squad isn't threadbare as one or two have suggested, the only area we're short on is centre forwards:

    Lloris, Vorm, McGee

    Walker, Trippier, Walker-Peters
    Toby, Jan, Wimmer, Fazio, Carter-Vickers
    Rose, Davies

Mason, Bentaleb, Dier, Dembele, Carroll, Winks
    Sonny, Townsend, Lamela
    Eriksen, Alli, Onomah
    Chadli, Clint

    Kane, Adebayor

    McGee has replaced Friedel.
Wimmer and Toby have replaced Vlad and Kaboul.
Dier, Carroll, Alli, Winks and Onomah are now first team players I'd say, taking the places left by Paul, Benji, Capoue and Holtby.
Clint and Sonny have boosted the wide role areas..

So at least two players in every position with the exception of upfront if you don't include Adebayor, while we have a number of players who can switch positions if need be. There's plenty of good players in that squad, all either have international or u21 international experience excluding the youngsters, who actually have youth international experience with the exception of McGee I believe. I still hope we'll get a free transfer in, I'm not sure who's available but there's bound to be someone out there who can just come in for the next few months and do a job if needed to help out Kane. Outside of the striking situation, I like the look of our team and squad, we haven't lost a key player, the defence is stronger, Mason & Bentaleb were really good last season and Dier has started superbly in the CDM role to keep them on their toes, there's added pace, skill and goal threat with Clint & Sonny, while Alli looks like a star in the making. We're stronger than last season in my opinion and we finished 5th then, really don't understand the OTT pessimism from some if I'm honest, time will obviously tell but no team apart from City have looked that good, have a bit of faith lads, this a young squad with tremendous potential <ok>.

The fact is we all fall in to two camps the optimists and the pessimists. I don't need to name names we all know who we are and new posters apart we are all very familiar with each others responses. It's the same after every game if we lose the same posters are here to tell us why we are such a heap of ****e and of course if we win, and we do sometimes, the other side will point out why we are on our way to greatness.
It almost doesn't matter what actually happens on the pitch for that is the beauty of this forum. We have a bunch of very articulate posters who are all at their very best when someone is politely telling them that they are talking bollocks.
It's a pleasure to read the contributions on here from whatever point of view they are coming from.

And THAT ladies and gentlemen, is why he's a moderator - he can swear and yet sound incredibly diplomatic and gracious doing it <magic>

Agree with most of what SoS said; although I went through Transfrmrkt's list of free agents and I'm afraid now that Cassano and Berbatov have found clubs there really isn't anyone on there resembling a footballer. Carlton Cole is the most prolific striker on the list, and Spurs might a well just give me the #9 shirt and tell me to get on with it if that's how low we're going to trawl.

So, i'm gonna assume (silly i know) that we will recall Shaq in November.
That means we have 3 Europa games and one COC game to negotiate with 1 "striker". Crucially away to Qarabag is at the end of November, we really need to send a weak team to that with West Ham before and Chelsea after.

If by some miracle we're still in the COC by the end of September i'd like to see Kane rested for them, and as many EL games as we can tbh. Poch's fate will ultimately hinge on our league placing. If he goes out cups early and finishes 5th or 6th he'll be ok i think. If he gets to semis in the cups and finishes 8th or below then he could be in trouble.

Didn't dembele once play as a striker? His strength on the ball is excellent, IMO. I reckon he'd be quite useful in an advanced attacking role/hold up player, if we needed it., feeding our pace on the wings.

I also really want to see trippier play too. Not because I have anything against walker, but there was some ridiculously good stats about trippier last season as an attacking full back. It's a new dimension I'm excited to see on the field for us.

Pleased to read this on the BBC. I'm sure more will come out about the last couple of years, but he was a pivotal player for us in some of the better times and I hope this is how he really feels
