With the latest disgusting transfer window, I think it's become obvious once and for all, that this club really has no major ambitions to win the league or to properly compete in Europe. The goal is clear, to simply maintain our top 4 spot, and get the odd cup here and there. For many years, we the fans have been very patient, buying the excuses fed to us by Wenger and the board, that we had financial restrictions, and that once they were lifted things would be different and we would be able to properly compete.....As we have seen, that was all a pack of big lies because nothing's changed, our club under Wenger is still as stingy and stubborn as ever to make the needed signings. I've said it before and will say it again, we are not going forward with Wenger, the glory days we had with him are well and truly a thing of the past, which aren't going to be repeated again. He is not the man to win us leagues and european titles anymore. This transfer window and our shockingly lack of activity should be the final nail in the coffin that confirms the sad truth that we well and truly have no ambition, and that Wenger's past his sell date. Disgusted is the best word to sum it up right now, disgusted with Wenger and the whole sorry excuse of how this club is being run right now by a soulless and gutless board. The BEST ever transfer news we will well and truly ever make, is the day Wenger finally decides to step down and retire.
If you wanted another indication of the zero ambition this club has, compare how much we have spent this summer with our rivals, it's disgusting. We are a joke.
I hope the fans that aren't happy make their feelings known at the game, no more of this nonsense of "let's get behind the team now since there's nothing we can do", there is something we can do, and that's to let the club know our feelings, and the only way they will actually take notice and give a **** if it's done in the stadium. Hope the pressure becomes so high on Wenger that he quits when he realises he's not wanted anymore, would be the greatest thing ever, it's going to be miserable having this guy as our manager for another 2 years and having to put up with consistent let downs. I'm so sick of him right now, he's managed to surpass himself in failure and letdown's with this transfer window. Wenger, the specialist in disappointment and lack of ambition is a fair title for him.
I genuinely feel that Wenger is arrogant enough to think that the squad in its current manifestation is good enough to compete for on all fronts. Let's be honest, it's not the first time he's put blind faith in the wrong players and it sure as hell will not be the last. I said it earlier that the only reason you don't strengthen your team, even when you have the means to, is that you believe that your squad is good enough as it is and cannot be improved any further. It is absolute lunacy to think that our squad is good enough to compete on all fronts, especially given the excessive spending that Chelsea, City and United have done over the Summer. The signing of Cech was yet another false dawn. We thought it was a statement of intent and a sign of more to come. How wrong it was to assume this given the misgivings of our manager. We are one of the richest clubs in Europe, we have one of the highest incomes in Europe and we have more cash reserves than almost every other club in the league combined. To spend a measly £10m on one position - and let's be honest, that player only signed for us because we were the best option in London after Chelsea for the sake of his family - is negligence of the highest order. This was a chance of us to show that we mean business after a previous 10 years of struggles and hardship. I said for a while that our issues ran a lot deeper than lack of financial resources and numerous people refuted that claim, but the last two years have shown that, underneath the surface of it all, the lack of finances have not been the main reason why we have been uncompetitive for so long. Wenger used this as an excuse to rationalise the type of players he went after. "These are the only players we can buy in our price bracket, we can't compete with the other clubs" and whilst this may have been true at the time in contrast to Chelsea and City, we could still comfortably spend £15-20m on players and still maintained a high wage bill even through the rigorous financial conditions. Lesser clubs have been very shrewd in the transfer market and have acquired players in the price range we could afford even when we were meant to be tightening our belts, so what is our excuse? What was Wenger's excuse for constantly buying the same type of player with similar attributes and not favouring strong, combative players who he could mould into a Viera-type player? Why could he not be ruthless/truthful with players who showed time after time that they weren't the calibre of player we needed? The reality is that the excuses have worn thin and Wenger is going to dismiss the hysteria as "a vocal minority" whilst holding the belief that he is still supported by the masses in his own delusional bubble. Let's see if his squad can vindicate the decision to not buy any outfield player this Summer. Because if they don't, there are going to be more and more disillusioned and frustrated fans who feel that they aren't getting their money's worth. It could be a very toxic atmosphere at the Emirates if things go pete tong.
Wenger, Capello, Hodgson... All the sorts of inflexible and stubborn dinosaur managers stuck in the wrong decade and woefully inadequate in today's football. Get rid
People keep saying once wenger leaves we will realise what we had.....it will be the opposite once we sign a world class ambitious manager to replace wenger we will realise how much time we have wasted with wenger and how much we have underachieved. You put any other world class manager at arsenal with the resources we have and they would be getting us major success instead of mere top 4 finishes and some cups after a decade.
The people who don't want Wenger out are the same sorts who didn't think cds would catch on, or that ipods would catch on, or are the ones who settle with someone they like but don't love. Scared of change so justify what they have as being the best they could get. Fence sitting settlers. Exactly the sort of fans that the board love and have been brown nosing the last few years with empty promises. Support the club, not those that are driving it into the dirt.
Christ alive, such drama... It's threads/attitudes as over the top as this that sees Arsenal fans as a joke amongst other supporters.
How about you stick to the football topic instead of having a go at fans who are sick of how things are being run at this club? There's nothing over the top about what I said, we are a team that merely wants to maintain our top 4 spot and have good finances, nothing more, and nothing less. We have done nothing to indicate otherwise, and this transfer window was more proof to that. But hey, you can stick to being a blind Wenger follower if it makes you happy, go bask in glory for coming 4th.
And I guarantee you if you took most of what I said to neutral fans, vs the rubbish spouted by trying to support Wenger, you'd find the vast majority would think the joker is the latter, not the former. The joke is the continued support for Wenger and his failed methods, the joke is Arsenal always repeating the same patterns every year in disappointment, it has literally become a running joke that Arsenal will collapse in February-March whenever we challenge, and it has become the running joke on Arsenal and our 4th place trophy, all courtesy of Wenger and his supporters. So no, if anyone makes Arsenal fans look like jokers, it would be fans like you.
Typical, comes here starting with the off topic comments, because in the end, deluded fans like you have no proper response.
The original post really hasn't been exaggerated, so I'm not really sure where you're coming from with this. He's summing up how a large section of the fan base are feeling and rightly so.
And in all honesty, I can't take you seriously either when you write rubbish like Arsenal's forward line doesn't look too bad with Giroud-Wellbeck-Walcott-Sanchez, I mean who can take anyone seriously when they say such nonsense? Sanchez-Not a striker, so you literally made that up. Walcott- Again, not an out an out striker Wellbeck- LOL, scored what, 4 league goals last year? Yeah, that looks fantastic doesn't it? And you say I make Arsenal fans look like a joke? Go on, tell us Flamini is the best DMF.
It's always like that, we make legit points, then the Wenger fans deride and insult us, and then they always like to take the high moral ground and lecture.
My comment wasn't off the topic, merely an observation on your reaction to the transfer window. Hey, if you think other fans don't think a large section of Gooners aren't a bunch of moany bast*rds then you're living in cloud cuckoo land. Urgh, as I type you make 2-3 extra comments, can't keep up. You keep making up lies in my name though, I said exactly what you typed 100%!
A87 may not always articulate himself in the right manner, but there's no way anyone could accuse him of not being passionate about Arsenal. You can tell from his anger on these kinda threads that he does want what's best for the club & he's deeply frustrated with our inactivity in the market, in addition to the flaws of our manager.
Erm most football fans are moany bastards, if you're not a moany fan you're in the wrong sport. Football is all about frustration.
Haha, I'll accuse him of many things, but a lack of passion ain't one of them! Not sure I did that anywhere did I?
