Motto of this summer seems to have been, 'Yes you'll get your chance this season, what with all the extra games in the EL and cups we're going to need you'.... Transfer deadline looms 'Yes you'll get your chance this season, just at another club'

Wisdom, Markovic and Ilori, all given fake promises.

An extra note, when Wisdom came on at the weekend anyone else think he was Norwich's best player (granted it wasn't that hard to be)

Not disbelieving but can anyone find the direct quotes from BR stating these players will get playing time with us this year? It'd be helpful to prove the pattern.

Only non-regular player from last season that I know of who was promised game for time this year was Ilori. Really disappointed he's been shipped out on loan; looked really promising in the U21s tournament.

I went and had a search because I genuinely couldn't remember and assumed I'd just glossed over them

I found: illori dad?brother? Statin he'd had positive talk's with Liverpool and that he would be included in pre season squad. That's it.

On wisdom I found a couple of articles without quotes that said he wold get his chance due to BR stating Can would be moved to midfield and based on display of CB''s last season. They both read like opinion rather than reporting.

Only thing I could find quoting BR on Markovic was that he definitely had a future at Liverpool despite gong out on loan to get game time.

Not saying the quotes don't exist but a quick look can't find them...I've not put a lot of effort into it mind...

Ilori was adamant on staying and fighting for his place. Even rejected a move to Sunderland.

But clearly told by Rodgers/club that he wouldn't play this season. Given our poor defensive record under Rodgers and with Skrtel has the fixture in that defence, you would think Rodgers would finally consider trying someone else.

OK, but that's his decision to risk turning down offers. It's not the same as being promised game time this season i.e. being lied to.

Either way - we would rather persist with Skrtel and Toure at RCB.

    Worrying times.

Well not a comment promising matches but still exposing the flaws of the current system.

We have all sort of accepted that there seems to be a power struggle between the "committee" and players targeted by BR.

With comments like this (and many others by Rodgers when signing a player) does he do himself any favours if he truly is on a campaign to force his agenda on the committee? Bigging up players he has no intention of playing to sound silly later.

Or did it happen over time. He originally put his trust in the committee even when he was dubious about a player and loyally talked them up on arrival but then when he got his hands on them he believed he was correct and has been less tolerant as it kept happening?

Is this why he kept his job; by pointing at the fact that half the signings weren't good enough and have had to go.

You expect a manager to laud new signings but is it yet another sign that the system causes to much grey area so we can't trust what anyone says and end up with conspiracy theories.

I mean even the out and out Anti Rodgers contingent must dislike a lack of a clear cut view of who is responsible for bringing guys in if only to be able to definitively say. "They were all Rodgers choices and all lies with him."

I don't think he ever did. After the debacle of the first transfer window in which he signed Borini and Allen, the club took away his power and appointed the committee. This was a system he was forced to operate under.

Him complaining that the signings didn't come off is laughable because the ones that haven't come off are the ones HE pushed through and spent big money on. A lot of people will continue to say the Mario signing was the worst but for me, giving Soton £50m for 3 players who have had zero impact on this team and are actively blocking the path of talented youngsters or better first team equivalents.

And annoyingly, Ilori and Markovic could have played key roles in cup games, given we have a lot of them. Now, we're going to have to rely on first teamers and run the risk of burnout.

Well we had Kelly who was sold because as a full back it was ruining him with injuries and no one wanted to try him out at centre back.

Now we had Skrtel, Lovren, Sakho, Illori, Toure, Wisdom who all want to play centre back.

We them kick out two players who are our youngest and tell one of our better ones to enjoy the bench for a while. Toure is no better than the youth we have.

Happens all the time, Coates and Wilson, these were two players who were touted to be great but after getting zero game time for like 2 years they had to go and now haven't reached the potential they should have.

Joe Gomez who I really like however gets thrown straight into the first team and now seems undroppable.

Im not saying every youth player needs to play all season and we suffer as a result but young players need a run of games. If they play say 5 to 8 in a row and look terrible then we move on, but playing the odd cup game or him coming on for five minutes where 3-0 up helps no one.

I'm happy that Gomez has been given a chance. I think it's great.

But I don't understand how you can give him a chance and not do the same for Markovic and Ilori who are arguably more talented and certainly more experienced.

Is it because the position Gomez has been put was in urgent need? Perhaps but has since emerged that we play and we lose all balance and offers no width. He seems to have gained plaudits but Manquillo did exactly the same and was criticised and ultimately let go.

For a club and coach who supposedly promotes youth, which youngsters would actually want to join us?

I was referring more to the highly rated youngsters around Europe.

Can and Origi are good shouts.

Might be worse now. Apparently you've got to pay 36 mill for highly rated European youth these days...

Tbf Wisdom had a terrible season at WBA and I really don't think he's good enough for us.

The worst thing is that he's actually right about us.

This is ridiculous! I think I said it in another thread but what's the point of buying youth? It's to find hidden gems who have a lot of potential BEFORE they cost huge sums.

    Like the two Nigerians perhaps?

I think he's talking bollocks personally . If he believes this year's team is worse than last year it's why he's out to pasture. If he thinks this team is worse than Woys then ditto.
