This subject tends to rear its head every few years or so. Normally its met with a lot of resistance from fans, myself being one. However, having just thought about it some more i'm coming around to the idea somewhat. It won't stop the poaching of the best players from the tier below but if we syphoned off the mega-rich-ridiculous-clubs it would make the domestic league and cups much more unpredictable, exciting and competitive. Deadline day just highlights the ridiculousness of how uneven the playing field is for 15-16 of the premier league clubs. I've no idea of the practicalities of any of it (realistically it won't work). But i'm a bit fed up with the way football is going
I agree, let United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool go off to play in their World Tour Money Spinner League along with the other silly money clubs and let the rest of us create a British top tier with Scottish clubs and have fan ownership with spending caps, ticket price caps and a cap of 4/5 non-British players.
What nobody wants to accept is that if the Sky 4 and friends all went to form their own Super League, it wouldn't cripple the Premier League overnight - not only would the league be more financially sustainable compared to the current model, but the league would have genuine interest because it wouldn't have the same four teams competing for the top four spots every season.
Yeah, good idea. You never know, we might even get an England team capable of getting to quarter finals again if we did that.
