Completely agree. Only managers of the massive money bags clubs can realistically expect to be able to waltz in to the chairman's office with a shopping list and expect it to be followed verbatim. And even that is becoming harder by be year as TV money increases, as the Stones and De Gea sagas demonstrate. In fact, seeing how inept LVG is with spending tonnes of cash, I'm glad we don't take such a gung-ho approach. If Man U can't get it right with a bottomless pot of gold, what hope on earth do we have?!
I'm not questioning opting for your second choice, that's a given. But our second choices have been sold 1 year later. Neither really given much of a chance, and clearly not deemed good enough. If Poch has chosen those players, that's worrying that our manager can't identify a good enough player for us. If it's Levy, the same applies about his choices. It's just not good enough, regardless of who is making the decision.
Surely it would more likely be Baldini that came up with the alternatives. Its worrying that Poch and him couldn't have a conversation where Poch said "i don't want these guys" though

But this sort of thing happens in any club: Cuadrado, Di Maria and Ballotelli spring to mind. The whole system is stupid because all managers seem to think they have some skill in choosing players and when they actually pitch up they suddenly see their faults.
I've just put a few quid on us signing Austin, fair to say Berahino definitely won't happen and so we may make an emergency bid for Charlie so I thought I'll get in early before odds are slashed... Probably won't get him either though
