Damn not 11. Well I guess I will have to endure Jim White squealing with excitement as the yellow bar crawls across the screen tomorrow.

Just back. No, I missed the rambling. They did 7.5 miles and apparently it was excellent [sod it]. I do like the banter amongst the ramblers. Great cross section of people. Think I've mentioned it before, but one of our older number worked on parts for the TSR2. We can get that kind of gritty conversation over a pint or three. Today, a fellow rambler walked by me and announced, that was better. He was referring to Saints yesterday.

Anyway. Shawford is a nice out of the way place. Hugely overlooked and that's how the various people there would like it kept. The M3 swishes by in its cutting and there's a fair bit of high ground between the area and the motorway. I couldn't hear it from outside the Bridge Inn, which is so called because it is right next to an impressive railway bridge, which also has an in-built station attached [those cunning Victorians]. Obviously, Shawford was planned for great things which never quite came to pass, or perhaps its heyday has passed into history. Not the best, but a nice-ish pub.

BTW, Butcombe Bitter isn't bad at all [they didn't do the porter, Chilco]. Light golden coloured, quite soft tasting, and fruity. Quite nice and a complete surprise for the name to be there. Had to get the barman to top it up though [these heads they put on true pint glasses, tsk, tsk] as the beer was well up.

You do realise that Victor Meldrew copped it at that bridge don't you. I regularly visit and pay homage.

Now our van’s off the road and not signing, so what are we gonna do?
The van’s off the road he’s not signing, so it’s time we got something new
Van Dijk Drama! Van Dijk Drama! Van Dijk Drama, who are we gonna call
Van Dijk Drama! Van Dijk Drama! Who are the ones we need to call?

Apologies chaps, appears it's been dragged on until tomorrow.

When I last heard (last night), I was told they were expecting to complete the deal this evening.

I am sure it makes signings look better when they're on deadline day. The impact is more forceful and high tension. Imagine Les Reed in his Indiana Jones clobber, rolling under the fast-shutting stone door, then reaching back in to grab his hat. Never a good image to think of Les holding a whip, but in terms of a positive, celebratory metaphor, that's what shifting a signing to deadline day sort of achieves.

@SkySportsAmy: We also understand Virgil Van Dijk had his medical last night & Saints expected to make announcement today. They've been after him for a yr

Sky: Comparison of VVD and Fonte reveals that Jose is better in every department apart from strength (especially manly beauty of course). Concluded that they would make a formidable partnership. VVD needs to improve in tackling and passing apparently (probably never needed them in Scotland), but it was added his stats are better if you only look at the stats from European football (point proven).
