And man utd spend the money they get from Leverkusen on Martial, who was offered to us for 14 Million. I hope Van gaal knows Martial isn't an out and out striker

I must say - I'm a tiny bit disappointed that my hilarious and clever "Malignant 7" moniker never really took off. Hey ho - life goes on...

What gets me is how a lot of the moves made perfect sense, yet they didn't work.

Take Capoue for example: on the face of it, signing another DMF who can instantly slot into the team made perfect sense when you consider how frequently Sandro was picking up injuries - but Capoue wasn't a good fit for the team as he lacked the workrate of Sandro or Dembele, making him easy for the opposition to bypass on the counter.

Paulinho and Lamela both made sense as both had good records of scoring from midfield - but, again, there was little thought of how they would integrate into the team: Paulinho fit into the Dempsey/Chadli mold of getting goals but going missing when he isn't scoring (not something you want in central midfield) while Lamela needed to make an instant impact but instead he couldn;t settle and it transpired we'd paid a large sum of money for a confidence player.

90 mins on my tottenham FTB pro app and stan collimore read it out on his show tonight on talksport.
That summer shows the lunacy of levys decision to appoint AVB as out manager 12 months earlier...onr thing that no one mentions about AVB is that he was the chelsea msnager who tapped up modric back in 2011 by constantly talking about him at press conferences.

Paulinho did better than people like to remember in his early Spurs days. I distinctly remember MOTD pundits and commentators highlighting his performance on a number of occasions.

It's a shame that all he's remembered by now is that miss.

Glad he's redeeming himself with the new club.

Could have worked out much different with a different system.

Funnily enough, I think Harry Redknapp could have worked wonders with that eleven. What we have now, not so much. Just my opinion.

Must say that I don't remember that. I do remember him playing very well in two games - against Man Utd when he played a more advanced role and one against Stoke where looked like...a proper Brazilian midfielder! He was excellent and full of tricks and confidence. Then Charlie Adam came on and crocked him...

I know he was supposed to be excellent in that Copa America tournament but whenever I looked for highlight reels of him from that tournament all I saw was lots of energy and him bundling his way through midfield with the ball often bouncing off his shin etc as much as actual mouth-watering skill being on show.

Apparently the De Gea paperwork didn't go through in time.

    <doh><doh><doh>

And they no doubt spent a fortune on Martial expecting the windfall from Real to cover it.

They are without question an absolute joke of a football club.

I'm more amazed that the Spanish FA didn't allow special dispensation for Real to extend the window, than I am about United's staggering naivety.

In a way, this suits us and other rivals even better: no Navas, and a pissed off Valdes and De Gea stuck sulking at the club. Which leaves Sergio Romero protected by a dodgy defence.

I'm sure that Florentino Perez is on the phone to the LFP right now, telling them their fax machine ran out of toner and the documents arrived with half an hour to spare.

Whoops pressed send a little too early!

I would say it's more like nobody wants him. Embarrassing that you can't even get rid of a 30 million player on loan

The version I've read is that the only way the transfer could've gone through is if OM signed him outright, as LFP rules state a team can have a maximum of five loanees in their first team squad - OM have loaned in Manquillo, Isla, Cabella, Lucas Silva and De Ceglie this season, so couldn't loan in Lamela.

In other words, Poch didn't block the move - Marseilles made a complete bollocks of it.

Right, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has been on Sky Sports News HQ a few minutes ago and he sounds pretty sure a deal will not be done, here's what he said:

"The news is the documentation was not done on time. David de Gea was at his girlfriend’s house waiting, Keylor Navas was waiting, everything was signed and sent to Manchester but the stories coming out of the Spanish media are that Manchester United sent the paperwork back at 12.01pm Spanish time, so past the deadline.

"Everything was agreed, there was a little bit of a battle of figures, but everybody was waiting in their places. The Bernabeu was full of people, but the documents signed by Real Madrid and Keylor Navas did not come back from Manchester United on time.

"The Spanish media are fuming and saying this is revenge for what happened with Sergio Ramos (not going to Old Trafford).

"There is no precedent for a deal to be done past the deadline. Fabio Coentrao was in the same situation a few years ago when he was going to potentially move to Manchester United.

"The documents did not arrive in time, Real Madrid asked for five minutes and the league said no, so there is no precedent for this to be overruled. I know in England if everything is agreed you can have an extension but that has never happened in Spain and is not expected to happen."
