True. But there must be clubs who will just outright say, NO. It must narrow options down to a certain extent, or mean they can demand what the hell they like for a player. - which effectively rules us out!
Agreed. Lennon and Fazio are (in theory) far easier to find buyers for; so it concerns me more that we still haven't found them. Having a player of Lennon's quality and reputation faffing about all season without a shirt number would be an embarrassment to the club not just in footballing terms, but also in terms of what he's done for the club as our (current) longest-serving player.
"I think deep down there was a feeling by all Spurs fans that we wouldn't shift Ade. I held hope for Villa to get something done but it just looks too big of an ask to get him to go." I spent all summer searching for his mums' voodoo effigy of him, so I could compel him to leave. But sadly Ade hid it so well that Voldemorts' horcruxes were by comparison like being displayed in the front window of Selfridges.
Jenas strikes again.... https://uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/ex...-t-receive-it-from-their-clubs-142727547.html
He's 100% right. We've treated Lennon appallingly, I don't care if he got involved in a spat with Pochettino. We've cultivated a very good reputation for ourselves as a club where youngsters get the chance to showcase their talents and flourish. In many ways, Lennon represented the beginning of this era. We shouldn't now undermine that reputation by building a contrasting one that we don't respect loyalty.
He does indeed. I do wonder what on earth Lennon has done to fall so far down the pecking order. I heard he refused to follow Poch's instructions during training. Whatever it is, it's a real shame in my opinion. Many times recently I feel he could have come on and done a job for us. He still strikes fear into fullbacks.
After 10 good years service lennon should have been given a free transfer. He cost us a million, was one of the key players that came into the team in 2005 and was key in helping us become a regular top 5 team. Am not comfortable about how we have treated him tbh
De Gea to Real confirmed. £29m plus Navas. Which is good news because Navas isn't as good as De Gea, and presumably this means Hugo is staying put for the time being!
His talk about AVB makes its sound pretty toxic at spurs behind the scenes. Completely the opposite to how it seemed when the football and results were good. Not a coincidence
I made a point about this some time ago, It used to happen so often in my old occupation. Loyalty must be a two-way street. You can hardly expect your staff to be loyal if you behave like a mercenary yourself.
In theory players get the loyalty they deserve. They earn a new contract and a payrise for good behaviour and good performances, they get a bigger contrat for doing better and they get a lower contract or none at all for poor performance and/or behaviour. I think it's pretty obviously implied that a continuation of those levels that earnt the contract is expected. I don't know exactly what Lennon has done or whether he's tried to make up for it but it's pretty obvious that somethings happened there for him to be ostracised from the senior squad. As with Ade, Benny and anyothers that have been in the left to rot on the sidelines maybe it comes down to whether the punishment is fair. I don't think any of us (other than Spurcat) are in a position to make a call on that. It's not a case of loyalty, or lack of, from the club. We've signed **** players, we've signed players that don't fit in and they've been moved on amicably or they've stayed without the need to expell them to the under 21s. Ultimately it's a business decision, though. If a player in the youth ranks had behaved like Benny or Ade, they'd be gone. A Chelsea youth player got sacked for setting off a smoke bomb whilst Ashley Cole got a slap on the wrist for shooting a colleague with an air rifle. It's not about loyalty, it's not about what's fair, it's a business decision. Sacking Cole would've lost Chelsea money as they'd have to replace him, we sacked Benny once the last opportunity to pay him less than his full contract had gone. Youth players don't need to replaced, they generally don't fetch big fees and are not difficult to get rid of so if they do something stupid they go.
I’d be surprised but not shocked if we don’t buy a striker, as late as it’s getting. Levy could say that both Clinton and Son could be described as strikers, but if our performances drop off badly without Kane, he’ll leave himself open for criticism. I don’t believe we’ll get Berahino at all. Pato looks like a realistic option. My big beef with him is that I’m not sure he could replace Kane any better than Clinton or Son. I think QPR are trying to get as much money as they can for Austin, and that’s the kind of game Levy doesn’t win. Other than the striker, anyone else seems more a matter of whether Levy finds someone he thinks is a good buy. I don’t know about Lamela, Fazio and Lennon. I would have thought we would have moved one or two of them by now. I don’t know enough to say what the chances of moving them are at this point, but there are only hours left, so it’s hard to be too hopeful. If the club were smarter, they would have realized that Lennon never got on the fans’ wrong side, just theirs, and that treating him badly would make us think badly of them, not Lennon.
Gets him off the wage bill (he's one of our highest earners) and, more importantly, keeps him in the shop window for a potential sale next year.
Maybe we're hoping he lights up Ligue 1 and then attracts a lucrative bid from PSG, they did splash £40m on David Luiz after all...
