Or we could make it into Europe and be in debt meaning the new rules wouldn't let us into Europe in the first place.

  2. Don't be stupid. I'm not saying we should spend a fortune and put ourselves in debt. I'm saying we should spend a reasonable portion of the 35m on players. We don't have enough depth in certain places, which means we'll be relying on luck that some players wont get injured.

I'm not saying spend 50m. I'm saying spend 10-15m on another striker, fullback and center back cover. That's hardly going to **** us up the arse financially.

We'll be saving money for January to, because it will give Pardew a better idea of where we can improve.

Who could we attract for 10-15 mil though? We're not in Europe or playing champions league. We're in the position where we're ambitious but can't attract that sort of striker yet.

Problem with Sturridge is that he's at Chelsea .. they really don't need the cash so there's no bargaining/deals to be done .. they ask for a price and that's that take it or leave it .. I'd be more than happy with a season long loan at this stage .. then we've another year to work on a more permanent quality appointment without the pressure of having to rely on Shola/McLovin/Ranger & Besty to see us through .. not super confident in any of this though if truth be told .. <ok>

  5. I never said we should be spending 15m on one player, i said we should spend that amount on a striker and cover for other positions. Anyway, who says that we can't attract players?

Haven't you payed attention to the teams weve snatched players from? FC twente, Lille, Marsielles. All CL clubs or were at the time we signed certain players.

If we were willing to pay the transfer fee i don't see why Sturridge wouldn't want to come here. He went to Bolton and i reckon we're a better club for players than them.

They not going to start handing out places in Europe for who makes the most profit. As long as you're in the black you're fine.

If you're going to argue that the £35m should cover wages, where the hell is the season ticket money, the TV money, the Northern Rock money, the club merchandise sales money? And where the **** is the SportsDirect money? He's painted his hideous logo all over our beautiful stadium and posted a record £200m profit, we should be due a sizeable chunk of that considering we've become the world's largest billboard for his business. He's put logos everywhere, used up some of the advertising hoarding, and even changed the name of the stadium, and the greedy **** has effectively charged us £35m for the privilege.

You did say we should spend 10-15mil on a striker!

Yes, we attracted Cabaye, by triggering a release clause in his contract. He came here to play in the Prem, but that's not how it works for all players, especially strikers. As for Ben Arfa that was a one off.

We're not willing to pay the transfer fee though or his wages, Bolton got him on loan because they were willing to pay his wages. Do you really expect MA to pay 70,000 a week for him?

i fail to see why we should. That's what the club's income is for.

edit: AG beat me to it, and with a far indepth too

  12. Well done for editing quotes to suit your own argument you tool. I said spend 10-15m on a striker, fullback and center back cover. Unless you're willing to argue properly, then **** off.

We attracted Cabaye, simple as. He was at a CL club, and he chose us over them. It's not like he'd go to Wigan simply because they're in the PL. Cabaye was attracted by the club itself and also some of the players like Ben Arfa that were already here.

As for Ben Arfa that was a one off? What a ****ing ridiculous statement.

Do i expect Ashley to pay 70k a week for him? No. But Sturridge has stated what he wants most is to play first team football, and he'll look away from Chelsea if he has to to be able to play first team football, so i reckon if we pay the fee, if Sturridge really means what he says about wanting to play first team football so bad, he'll accept a 10k/15k pay cut to come here.

I don't agree with the fact we should, but with MA as chairman I just see him pocketing all the money from TV, Northern Rock money etc.

To be fair Ben Arfa was a bit of a one off, a player of his ability and age should have cost 15 million easily.

Something noone has mentioned on here regarding Sturridge, wasn't he sent off last day of the season against Man City? Straight red card so will he be suspended for the first 3 games of the season?

That just wont happen though, we'll buy a striker and that will be it.

He would most likely have chose us because he knows Ben Arfa, but that doesn't ignore the fact he came here because of it being the best league in the world (in theory).

I just don't see us getting Sturridge at all, I just doubt he'd take a pay cut.

This is my point about Ben Arfa, we were lucky to get him.

I doubt he was on 70K, it seems we are as skint as Everton <ok>.

Sturridge would be a great signing for you lot, he's young, ready and looking for first team football, something that Newcastle would surely give him.

He can dribble with the ball at a fast pace, something which is uncommon among English players. He would go to skin a player or two, and he has the shot to finish most chances (with his left foot). He can play the killer ball, though he was quite greedy for Bolton towards the end of the season, but I think that was due to the late drop of form for Bolton rather than anything else.. it remains to be seen.

He can also chase lost causes when he's up for it, and from the looks of it, he's quick enough to chase some LONG balls. I remember him successfully running down the wing chasing a long ball and we nearly scored of it at Newcastle Away.

Your midfield looks pretty beast too, meaning you could mix it up and make him more effective. I think you would need a target man of some sort to play near him though, Kevin Davies made it 10 times easier for Sturridge to do what he did at Bolton because he would knock it down from goal kicks and give him the ball to do what he wanted.

If you got him, I think you COULD push for Europe. Depends if Ashley is prepared to give Pardew the money he needs to get him.

I think MA's overall ambition as Newcastle owner is to invest as little money as possible to keep us solid in the PL while pocketing the rest of the money for himself. The £35m is a prime example of this; he has used it for everything training ground improvements, transfer fees, signing on fees, agent fees, wages, which allows him to keep the money made from sponsorship, tv, and supporters for himself. He is a business man, not a football man, he sees Newcastle as a business for making profit for himself, not to help improve Newcastle as a club for footballing sake.

THIS. Truth be told, we've been spoiled by several of the deals from the past 12 months, Tiote, HBA, Cabaye, and potentially Ba and Marveaux as well. I'm not saying they should stop the buying there, because I agree there's a lack of depth in several positions, BUT, the quality of players people on here would consider worthy of buying, are like others have said, valued higher than (a fraction) of 15m, or want to be playing in Europe immediately. Clearly we've found a few exceptions, but it's not easy to do.
