Be a bit dissapointing if we weren't aiming for something ... a good cup run in any of the comps gives confidence and feel good factor .. plus generates a little extra dosh for the club <ok>

I think we should definitely go for it.

Was quite upset when I saw Hughton fielding a weakened team against Arsenal after we knocked out Chelsea as we proved that we were capable of beating Arsenal with a strengthened team.

Arsenal's fixtures after our game were Wigan , Ipswich and Brum in the final...

Pardew will take the FA cup seriously and rightly so.

You seem to be mistaking the Carling Cup with silverware. <ok>

  6. Carling Cup is a cup at the end of the day, plus it gets you European qualification.

We should be targeting some cup success every season, like all clubs should!!

What's the point of being in the profession if you don't aim to win?

Granted in previous seasons we have fielded weakened teams which IMO is quite annoying and stupid really

  8. It's also about managing your resources, i.e do you put your strength on the field in a cup tie to go for the win? Or do you go with a weaker team and not risk the better players.

After no domestic trophy since 1955 , I will happily settle for the Carling Cup.

It's still a cup at the end of the day and would end our trophy drought.

A few extra games for players that are their to bring success shouldn't be a problem

Yeah, but you'd think differently if a vital player got injured during a cup game, which messed up our PL season wouldn't you. I'm not saying that they can't handle it, i'm saying sometimes it's not worth it.

Remember Tiote vs Stevenage? Got a red card and was out for 3 games.

Pardew didn't take the FA cup seriously last year and made the biggest mistake of his time hear in the process (Tiote red card. I would be delighted if we won the Carling Cup as a cup is a cup! I'd aim to go as far as possible in both cups but the league would be my priority.

So does the Intertoto, but no one's counting that.

He did field a strong team, but that was stupid as we were playing a L2 side midweek, the reserves would have beaten them and not been fatigued.

The players weren't prepared either, you could probably say that he underestimated stevenage. Bringing on Tiote when he did was the worst moment in his career as Newcastle manger. I think that was probably the difference between beating sunderland and drawing to sunderland.

you should always field a strong team when necersary, arsenal yes, leeds yes, fulham yes but not against stevenage, we should of had younger hungrier playing on the pitch

  20. It's stupid to say the Carling Cup doesn't mean a lot. It's silverware, it's an achievement, and it's just as hard to win as the FA CUP.
