Tbf any striker is better than Rooney ATM. Rooney needs to drop into the hole and if he screws up there then straight to the bench. I feel sorry for the england team. Looks like Rooney needs a lot of space with no pressure from any defender for him to score.

The BBC are reporting that he signed a one year extension taking his contract up to 2019 and so I don't think it would have altered the price much to be fair.

Some crazy prices about this window, but I very much doubt this is a panic buy, maybe on the price but not on the player

Who cares if it's a panic buy or not. You can afford it. He's not going to make you offensively any worse is he.

In our situation, any player we could call a 'striker' would have done.

Seems like a French welbeck. Pace and power but little goal return.

Everything is relative. When you think an RS donkey like benteke costs £33m, then that price is not that outlandish <ok>

Pretty sure he only had 1 year left on his contract when he got the extension but I could be wrong. Having said that, Spurs wanted him for around £7m before he signed the extension anyway, so we've been rinsed either way.

TBH Phil, it's not even the price itself - that's just a symptom of the complete incompetence in the manner of this purchase. What should anger every United fan is THIS is what we were waiting for??? Of all the strikers available this is the best we could come up with. Well it's fairly obvious it wasn't. What this is, is a last minute buy with very little substance.

The price is not the point here.

Count yourself lucky that we lost yesterday otherwise we wouldn't even have bought him or any striker . <yikes>

The reports suggest two things. We've been scouting for a year and any sale was dependent on Monaco failing to reach the Champions League.

The latter has only just occurred.
