Didn't really know where else to post this but was thinking this morning that players who have left Swansea in recent years don't seem to improve. I mean that as a compliment to the team that it makes the most out of its players' abilities. Correct me if there are exceptions to this but Ben Davies seems to have gone backwards, Bony doesn't look all that for City, Vorm seems a worse player than his first season at Swansea etc.
Yes there is a very long line of players who have left and their careers have either fallen apart or have gone into decline, i'll try to summarise this Lee Trundle Andy Robinson Dorus De Vries Steven Caulker (Loanee) Danny Graham Vorm Bony Scott Sinclair Joe Allen Ben Davies Michu (Still leaving) And many more
It seems to be the way Watford_R. We are a team which plays to structured, rigid, system based on fluid formations. In the system each player, including bench, has a deeply defined role designed to fit the game plan of the day. We don't buy players solely because of their CV but we collect players who have the required attributes to fit the system. This probably has a lot to do with it
To be fair to the players you mentioned, they haven't exactly been playing for their teams. Bony and Vorm hasnt played for obvious reasons. Also you mention Vorms first season, his 2nd season at Swansea was pretty bad and Fabianski is by far a better keeper imo. Ben Davies is a bit of a surprise because i see Rose as an absolute liability but for whatever reason Poch didn't fancy him last season either. Hard to show what you can do when you don't play. Thats not to say they were right in making the move, it's always bad to move to another team if you aren't playing (unless you aren't playing in your current team anyway)
Well that's it isn't it? If you don't play for your new club on a regular basis then your career stalls. I remember De Vries leaving and going to Wolves as he was prepared to fight for his place, think he played a dozen times in 3 years. It's only now at Forest he's getting regular first team action. The fact is I can only think of one player who has left and improved in the last 10 years or so and that is Sam Ricketts, sorry but can't think of anyone who has left the liberty and succeeded, though Sinclair might now he's not with Man City.
I guess what i meant is, i wouldn't outright and right say they've gone backwards. I'm sure if Bony was to rejoin a team he'd start banging them in again. He's at city so it depends how you see his career progression. He's at a bigger team, getting paid more and when he does play, hes generally done well and got some goals. Someone like Michu has obviously regressed. He's played terribly and doesn't really look the business. They are not playing as much but can you honestly say if Ben Davies or Vorm look like they are worse than they were at Swansea (vorm 2nd season Swansea, and Davies who was playing regularly but wasn't that consistent). I would say they haven't progressed and achieved their potential which they may have done at swansea with regular football but to say they have gone backwards and gotten worse is not something i agree with
Bog off, I've driven down from Hampshire, so your not taking the glory. Anyway you will probably get lost after Birmingham!!
This thread is proof of the pudding how fickle most fans are..... Gomis is a good player as everyone commented in above posts
