Yes, I think we are. I was expecting something when I took a first sip/mouthful of it, but nothing. It was just very... nothing?

It didn't really taste of much. I finished the Guinness, then returned to beer.

The smaller the glass you need to drink your alcohol from the better.

Oddly enough, when drinking beer/ale from a bottle at home, I like to pour it into a small glass rather than a pint glass. No idea why, just seems to taste nice, which I know is nuts really.

:-( One of the victims from the Shoreham air disaster was named this morning, Dylan Archer. I used to talk F1 in the pub with him a lot. Lovely, quiet, unassuming man. There but for the grace of Lady Luck.

    RIP mate.

May not be nuts...different shape container may affect the oxygen content by increasing the surface area exposed to the air. Not saying it is, but not beyond the realms of possibility.

and the shape of the glass can influence where the drink is thrown onto the tongue.

Always prefer tea from fine china, whereas coffee is okay from a thicker cup/mug.

I do the same, as I tend to swig the first half and then top it up.... Stops me swigging the whole bottle. Stays at temperature better in the bottle too so top up still cool.

    Exactly put. It is nothing.

I notice FLT said go and drink one in Ireland. Don't bother making a special trip. It isn't that much better. It's OK-ish. Acceptable maybe. I've wasted my money in all parts of England, and even in Scotland [and of course, NZ]. I had one pint in Dublin and that finished it for me. I lied to the landlord and chose an Irish Whiskey next. Never bothered since, curiosity cured. For the amount of hype it gets it should Nectar of the Gods.
I'm not knocking people who truly like it, but I think there are people out there who think they should like it [because of the hype] and they persist with it.. Don't bother. There's hundreds of beers out there which are superior. It actually put me off stout for years until I was adventurous enough to try a different one, which was a shame because on the whole I find that stouts/porter are nice. Milk stout can be very nice indeed.

One thing I never ever do is drink beer from a bottle. The beer needs oxygen to release its flavour and the process of pouring into a glass gives it that. Straight glass too. None of the dimple/handle rubbish, even with draught beers. :)

Has anyone ever caught Weil's disease from a beer bottle that's been in a cellar?
