Ah well, I see that referees (especially our friend Michael Oliver) are very much in the news. Incredible results at Stamford Bridge and Anfield and whatever the result tomorrow, we're above Chelsea and Bournemouth (look forward to seeing Wilson's 'bicycle kick' on MotD!!). CH's Brighton beat 1p5wich!!!! Hamilton Accies win again!!!!
Well, seems as though Whitts sending off was for 2 'soft' yellows. That said, it appears that the entire team performance was poor.
Sorry but not soft IMO. Two incredibly cynical and stupid yellow cards which hardly do anything to dispel the consensus that he is ok against weaker teams when we are on the front foot but hopeless against tricky wingers. The referee was right to send him off.
Sorry DM - I wasn't saying Whitts was any good and I totally agree that he is hopeless and at least a yard too slow when faced with tricky wingers.
By the letter of the law we can have no argument about Whits sending off yesterday, however if there was just a smidgen of common sense left in the game then surely the ref would have called him over after the second foul, possibly Rusty as well as captain, and had a word along the lines of: "look son, you've just been booked, that was a silly foul again so calm down because if you do anything else as silly in this game then you're off". Neither foul was dangerous nor stopped a goalscoring opportunity, both were silly, niggly little fouls and whilst they were stupid I just find it ridiculous that someone should be sent off for such nonsense - don't think he'd committed any other fouls had he? Does my head in how refs cannot wait to flash the red card nowadays, totally spoiled the game and couldn't easily have been avoided with just a tiny bit of common sense. We'd have still lost with eleven men though, we were ****e from the first kick-off and pretty much got what we deserved.
