In rural India it probably is. Urban areas no, but there are all sorts of bizarre stories and rules that come out of remote areas that are extremely old fashioned and cruel.

Think the mental one has left the country by now, for the best that Gonna ask her fit mate out for a bevvy when i next see her ... she's not as fit as the wedding one though, but she was with her fella who works in finance in that there London and had a £7000 watch on his wrist. Had a nice chat with her as she was sat across from me, her bloke was a decent guy but think he was being a bit off with me by the end - maybe all was not as it seemed, who knows with these things eh

Yes... and... no... Lack of a decent option to vote for is bad. Trump in the lead for republican nomination is bad... truly there are few worse options, he is like the antichrist. There again the Republicans have gone further and further to the right since I moved to the US. They didn't use to be quite so bad. Goodnews is, if Trump wins nomination then that's the republicans screwed- he can't win the election. Bad news is, if he loses Hillary wins. Both parties always seem to pick the absolute worst candidates. Not that it matters. Electoral college means that national elections are voted for by state. Republicans will always win South Carolina. Most people just go to the poll and check "Straight Party vote for Republicans" they don't even look at the individual choices or vote for individuals. No-one outside the republican party has much of a chance to win anything.
FWIW, I've never voted for a republican or democrat for president. I always vote for a third party candidate because I hate the institutionalised two-party system. The whole American system is rigged so that a third party can never become big. From the states giving money to ONLY the two main parties. To the whole "vote straight party ticket" options on the voting machines. The two main parties have set it up so that it's almost impossible for a smaller party to emerge as a viable candidate.
true disenfranchisement there you'll never have a democratic senator, congressman or governer so why vote? the vote you make for a democrat in the presidental election is nullified by the state too... so why vote... A third party can never rise to presidental election but can they get congress representation or in senate? i did not know they had vote for party buttons... that is pretty sick actually. they might as well just fix the elections in the open as hide it that much.
Funny enough, we did have a democrat governor when I first moved here. Don't know how or why. Previous governor must have really sucked. In the future we may have more chance at democrat we are having mass migration from the North. Northerners tend to be democrats so the are slowly moving the state to the left. One day we may not be a foregone conclusion. 3rd party candidates and independent candidates occasionally do win an office here and there but they face a huge uphill battle because the voting procedures are stacked against them.
Also, for county level offices, the county I'm in is 60% black and blacks tend to vote overwhelmingly democrat. So locally I know democrats will always win but at a state level ,republicans will almost always win. With almost no variation. Unlike some states that are more balanced, my county and my state are a foregone conclusion.
