Skrtel and Lovren to be taken out back and shot. Sakho and anyone else really, the afore mentioned two don't deserve to be in the starting line. But with Rodgers lack of balls and Skrtel's somehow invulnerability to be dropped, expected the 'less than dynamic duo' of Skrtel and Lovren to still be playing after the international break.

He tried to make up for it with the long shot, chance from the corner

If Firmino's goalgoes in its a different game but we still have big problems

SaS is our best CB pair. Lovren shouldn't get a look in after the weekend.

How can you blame Lovren for trying to follow instructions, play out from the back, don't give possession away.

He gave possession away. He tried to play fancy in a really dangerous position. What he did was stupid and even a high school kid wouldn't have made that mistake.

He nearly pulled it off, had he managed it you would all be saying what a great piece of football it was (calm on the ball) <ok>

He had several opportunities to clear it. When he failed to play it out the first time, then you resort to the basic instinct which is to lump it.

But Lovren and Skrtel only had 1 poor game - we should continue to persist with them. <laugh>

Man, I dunno about either of Lovren or Skrtel

We all know Skrtel isn't great really, he's average at best, a somewhat unintelligent defender with a shiny head who can be steady in the right conditions but is always somehow found out once or twice or more in a game depending on quality of opposition. And that getting found out can have potentially lethal consequences for us in matches, again depending on what team and which players are doing the finding out ... fun for them, crippling anxiety and stress for us

We all know Lovren played like a newb and had the mental resolve and physical presence of a bunch of dried flowers last season. The WH game was a regression when we thought he'd turned a corner from that after three very surprisingly 'normal' performances where he didn't manage to disgrace himself or the game he has supposedly been playing for many years

Rational thought is to give them a couple more games and see what happens then decide

The LFC fan thought is that these two eejits should be nowhere near the pitch and disbelief that they actually play for the club, total frustration, but what other options do we really have past Sakho ??

Put Can back there ?? Nah.

Play the inexperienced, untested Ilori ?? Nah. (probably ... might be worth giving a game to see but he is nowhere near the team)

Start Toure ?? For reals yo ?!

Sakho is the only leader (I don't count Toure since he is far past being competent) we have in our defensive ranks. He must play. Any other CB will perform better alongside him so Rodgers can pick whoever smiled at him the right way outside the changing room. Personally, and like many others, I'd go with Ilori or even Wisdom who's dropped off the radar after an impressively solid and secure start to his career with us. Shame he got shipped off on loan again. Both will probably leave in the summer and we'll buy another CB...

Other option is to play Sakho and Gomez which might work - provided Rodgers is ready to give Moreno another chance at LB. unless his confidence is so shattered by now that his career with us is past it.

Lovren should be dropped certainly, but changing both CB's for the next game is not a good idea.

I'd go Skrt's and Sakho. This left back issue needs sorting too

Why not? Neither are particularly great. I would argue that our defensive 'success' of late is more down to better fullbacks fulfilling the defensive duties our previous fullbacks didn't, someone infront of the CBs who can move and at least occupy space as a deterrent to runners as opposed to Gerrard sitting there, and a fair chunk of luck.

No way Rodgers will drop both and it's even looking slim he'll drop one of them tbh.

I agree. The game against WHU was the first where both full backs pushed on and BOTH CB's struggled. For once, they weren't being babysat. And with the high line, high pressing style we want to adopt, neither Skrtel or Lucas can handle the prospect of having to defence space in behind them. They thrive on playing in a deep set up which is where they look good - look at the Arsenal game as an example.

As mentioned previously, rather than continue to with the dross, I'd sooner give Gomez or Ilori a chance at RCB and give them a season of development because they will not do any worse.

I am not happy about injury to player, fortunately or unfortunately Lovern is injured. Sakho time to
make that position yours at least for now.

We may as well play the chuckle brothers....all options start with 'to you, to me'......and end up with calamity.

Seriously though, this is in the coaching/tactics. If you expose any CB pairing and tell them to piss about with the ball when they don't have that capability, then they'll be exposed. Just another example of square pegs into round holes under BR.

I'd like to see Gomez and Sakho as CB's problem is I think they are both left footers, and I don't mean Catholics.

If we play 3 CB's we could have them two and Can on the right, at least they could play a high line as they are all quick enough.

  18. Gomez is right footed. He's only ever played LB for us I believe

Knowing your own ability is important. Lovren thought he was better than he is.

    I'd play

    Sakho and Gomez

They are both young enough to really gel together and get a great understanding together.
    Surely better option...?
