To be fair I also have always thought he was crap and I think my only post on your board was to say that (as well as to say how impressed I was by Montero). I still think he's gash as he's slow and almost permanently offside but there's no denying that at the minute he's very effective. By the way, my opinion isn't just based on his time at Swansea, he was touted for years because of his CL performances. I used to watch the CL. Also he's a ringer for Tracy Chapman.

I think what came over most as a surprise was his statement "they changed their game and our team were too slow to react". From that I assume he leaves it to the players to notice the change and make alterations to suite, in which case all possible changes must/should be discussed and practiced in training. I still think it's hard to notice such changes quickly enough whilst playing the game, this should be noticed by the manager/coach and instructions passed immediately.
Why not? In all seriousness I'd be happy to have the player join United but it would further detach me from the club I grew up with and further decrease the limited admiration I have for LVG. My lad and I play fantasy football too.
Yeh this is what I was getting at. It's worrying bcos I think we'll have better teams in bigger games that will pick up on that as well. He's wrong anyway imo, the problems were far greater than that. The way we gave away the goals, the manner of our stagnant football, the lack of any cutting edge up front. A more clinical forward and we would have been out of sight regardless of their change of shape.
The stagnant football is designed to draw teams out and create gaps which we should be able to exploit, that works ok but your next point about the cutting edge is a problem. Today I saw Mata and Memphis run into those gaps several times but the pass never came, when Rooney found the gap and got the pass he blew it (3 times). The second goal was poor keeping and a great pass by Ayew. The first goal was poor defending from Smalling and Blind, yes Rooney gave the ball away with Darmian up the field but, when the move developed both Blind and Smalling moved toward the near post leaving Ayew and Gomis free behind them.
If Mata had any pace, and I'm not talking Kanchelskis, more like Young, he'd be borderline unplayable. He's got a ridiculous first touch, very good vision and a killer final ball but he is almost always in danger of losing the ball because he's so slow over the first handful of yards. Shame.
Really good points mate. And I think that's it. Draw teams out, but have runners who will take advantage, and know when to pass the ball forward instead of checking back all the time. I know Rooney blew those chances, but we could (and should) have created so many more imo. BTW he blew just as many (if not more) against Brugge on Wednesday, but that was masked by the goals he scored against an easier opposition who allowed us to have so many more chances.
We can sit here and over analyze this loss all day long, but the fact of the matter is that the game was good and we played well. To my satisfaction anyway. Any other day, it would have been a good away win. So unto the next, I guess!
Arsene Wenger thinks Gomis is a very good player. I think his opinion carries a little weight. Gomis is much better looking than Tracy Chapman.
