No but fergie was unique. For every fergie there's 10000 stereotypical English managers pointlessly screaming at their players constantly. These sort of managers have a long list of relegations on their CV.
Ah yes possession football, I forgot, this is where your version of possession football is pretty football. Zombie passing is still possession football. United in the last 2-3 seasons played possession for the sake of possession as much as LVG, the only difference was we had a **** midfield and Fergie knew how to work the ball to penetrate a defence. LVG has a much better midfield but he's doing the same - possession for the sake of possession, but with the players he has he could do so much more.
Striker? I think Man U need a new spine of world class players to compete in Europe or too even win the PL. (assuming de Gea is going)
It would have been possession football if we actually kept the ball. We didn't. We surrendered possession against far to many sides. Fergies failure to solve the midfield issue was the cause of this.
We did lose the ball, that's true, but that's hardly surprising with the mediocrity and lack of creativity in midfield. But in terms of possession, the ball was passed aimlessly as much then as it is now, particularly in midfield. For the sole purpose of holding onto possession rather than actually attack the opposition. But atleast Fergie managed to use counter-attack or our wide players to penetrate the defence every now and again. I'd expect with the quality LVG has, he should be doing those pretty triangles and using pace and our wide players to absolutely burn the opposition. That's what's so criminal. Fergie with this side (and I don't like bringing him up) would be tearing this league apart.
Possession football gives players the excuse to hide. I may not have created anything but I didn't give the ball away as instructed. It's a worry that Depay bought into it today. Our most attacking player was Shaw who was superb.
Funny how how many, many half wits deemed him a failure last season. An 18 year old lad having cost many millions takes a while to settle into his job at huge new club, scandal. Seriously, it was obvious what a talent he is and what a bargain he'll be should be play for the club for fifteen or so years, which he really should. Cracking player. Honestly though, Romero is going to cost us many goals this season. de Gea should be in as of next game if he isn't sold.
The premiership is a different league to the continental ones and I believe fergie ultimately worked out the recipe to win matches here against all but the very top teams. Fergie's teams played at a high tempo and attacked incessantly taking risks. That is why fergie's teams were not so successful in Europe. I think that LVG's system of possession football and taking very few risks in case the ball is lost will not work in the prem. we need pace, players trying to get behind the defence and giving the front men a chance. The passing game without penetration has never worked for United. The model we need to follow (whisper it) is that used by pellegrini. Tiki taka and possession for possession's sake is a recipe for others to just park the bus and then counterattack. Both the Swansea goals came when we lost the ball in their half and our defence stranded upfield. And the irony is that the same model so successful here so far for Pellegrini has not worked do far in Europe. I am prepared to give LVG the benefit of the doubt because when Fergie retired I said thus club is going to suffer some massive turbulence over several years. It is quite right that he has strengthened his defence and the midfield. When he gets a good striking force we can judge him. His is still a work in progress despite having spent £230m.
Romero is terrible. It's bizarre that he's managed to get so many international caps. The DDG situation is a joke. So is the Valdes situation. In fact so is the Lindegaard situation as all three are better than Romero but all three have been alienated! Valdes is a **** though.
In other news... All three PSG goals tonight were sublime in their own way. Edinson Cavani's first came at the end of a move containing 20 passes, his second was created by a perfectly weighted Zlatan Ibrahimovic through ball, and Ezequiel Lavezzi made it three from a terrific Angel Di Maria pass over the top. It's a statement of the obvious to say it, but this is a PSG side brimming with quality. Ours is brimming with quality and has 20 passes too
Valdes deserves it. De Gea should have been handled far better though and I agree that I would prefer Lindegaard in than Romero. It didn't help to see the ****er laughing every time he nearly ****ed up.
