"Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal says his side couldn't cope with Swansea changing shape during their 2-1 defeat"........well, perhaps if you and Giggsy bothered to get off your arses during the match and give some instruction from the technical area we might be able to 'adapt' during play.
I said the same about Monk, he seems to be coping okay, the thing about having an ex player who knows the team and club inside out is that the players will play for you. It doesn't work every time but I'm sure Giggs has it in him to do it.
Not a lot maybe but it would at least give a perception they were attempting to instruct the side. Van Gaal.did once. That was it though. Sitting down and doing nothing doesn't look great. Or that you have any control.
It's all a bit pedestrian. Fergie would be on the touchline and the message would come across to the players that they needed to go the extra yard. Mourinho is a touchline manager. In fact the majority are. How many just sit there with their clipboard?
No offence but there is a difference in the ramifications of a defeat for the two sides in question. Monk loses and he's a plucky young manager building something special at Swansea. Giggs loses and he's an out of his depth young manager overseeing a crumbling empire that can't survive without Alex Ferguson. Look at Moyes who wasn't young or experienced, every time he farted it was headline news!
Fergie was but he was old school. He certainly cut down in his later years as he mellowed a little. Never thought of Mourinho as a touch line manager tbh. Not noticed. Van Gaal has a false hip doesn't he? Sure he said so and that's what he doesn't pace up and down the touchline. He was a screaming lunatic at Barcelona back in the day, made some players cry.
You make it sound like LVG is new to management. He has won leagues across Europe. Picking on whether or not he sits down is just lame, in my opinion. As for Mourinho, his presence on the touchline has achieved what exactly this season? The point is, we need to keep things in perspective. We lost today, yes! But it's a marathon.
Mourinho's won the occasional trophy. LVG isn't new to management but that doesn't mean that everything he does is bang on. That's Astro talk.
Giggs would be a disaster right now. Not what we need. The improvement under van Gaal is evident in all areas bar attack which is a bit of a concern. Especially as he is famed for his attacking football. Defensively we've gone from shambolic to one of the top defences in the league and the midfield is better (both personnel and play) than its been for years. On top of clearing out a decades worth of dead wood he's done a decent job. We need someone up front who is arsed. Rooney is too hit and miss but while hr seems to be undroppable for both club and country, he's never going to feel threatened in his position. The Spanish window shuts tomorrow so if de gea is still here then he better start v Liverpool. Still confident we will improve on last seasons 4th spot. Only city to worry about based on early season form.
None taken, but the fact is at the end of the day he would be in charge of a team of players, what the press says is irrelevant, get your head down and play the game, and not worry what anyone writes about you.
Yeh but all of those turned out to be beyond dreadful as managers. Barking out orders only works of the orders are useful. Randomly screaming stuff at players or anyone isn't going to help.
It definitely doesn't mean everything he does is golden but in grand scheme of things, has the team gone backwards? Absolutely not! I like the foundation in place right now and the general style of play. With some smart touches, the next manager, if LVG retires, would inherit a great side with good fluent style of play that has been missing for about 7 years.
This is my view. Its taken longer than I expected and there's so much work left but I see a team well versed in modern football. A team that can press with the best of them, a team well drilled defensively and able to control games. Even in fergies later days we didn't do much of that. We could barely pass the ball in some games. Fergies magic gave the side that little extra which meant we won games. I do expect us to be a very good side by the end of this season. Were all the work done over the past 12 months or so pays off.
This reminds me of under 10s playing in school grounds and are shambolic but the manager is still yelling by the sidelines lol
I understand what you're saying and the last 2+ seasons under fergie weren't great to watch, but honestly, LVG's style is just a variation on that. Fergie looked across at Barcelona's possession football and decided with the players we had, he would apply that while keeping the element of counter-attack and pace as a form of hitting teams. Van Gaal's sides lack any element of counter-attack although their pretty triangles seem nicer than when when Fergie was in charge, don't let that fool you. It's boxed up differently that's all... and why not, the players he has in midfield are far better than when Fergie was there. That's the difference.
I don't think barking orders I'd a concern. Glazerfodder or lostboi like to panic about things without much thought.
Eh? We certainly didn't play any kind of possession football in his later years. A phrase coined on another forum put it perfectly... Zombie passing.
