apparently A trequartista plays as a withdrawn forward or as an attacking midfielder, not pushing quite as far forward as his team's furthest-forward attacker. The term came out of the Italian league, but the idea is an old one according to the interweb........

Most of these terms are commonly found on football manager games or heard in pubs when utter cretinous arseholes are spouting off about footy like they know everything

"...it's in the old onion bag.". It's a bloody net.
".pick that out"....the goalie didn't save it.
"brilliant" (move, goal, tackle.. any ****ing thing). It's not, it's commonplace, that's what these overpaid twats do all the time. These highly paid commentators should have a better lexicon of adjectives.
"...that was a brilliant piece of brilliance" I once heard. FFS.
"It was an easy decision to sign" ..for 'X' team...like hell it was.

I used to not be able to tolerate David Coleman because he had a bad habit of just shouting out the score when a goal went in. One-nil! was often all he could come up with no matter how great the goal.

I find the commentators of other sports such as athletics/cycling/anything other than football are much more articulate and knowledgeable about the sport, the competitors and techniques/history around the sport. Football is pretty much bottom of the class.

Michael Johnson on the athletics is great. Daley's brilliant too.
McEnroe on the tennis is great.
Stuart Barnes is excellent on the RU.
Nick Halling when he did the NFL was really good too, good on the boxing now.

Spot on Chizzly. Colin Jackson, Paula Radcliffe, Denise Lewis are all good too. Football is so far behind it's unreal. Not sure how people still tune in to listen to drivel spouted by ex footballers who can't string two sentences together. Easy money for them.

Michael Johnson in particular has been fantastic, nice to listen to a well educated & eloquent pundit that knows what he is talking about.

Colin Jackson is disastrous. Denise is not much better - she offers no technical insights whatsoever.

Michael Johnson puts them to shame. He is bloody superb.

Not really a phrase but I hate the chant that goes "<insert team name here> are by far the greatest team, the world has ever seen. And it's <insert team name here>"

Every set of fans in the country "sing" it, yet it is such a painfully slow dirge of ****e! Football chants should be high spirited and adrenalin-fuelled affairs that uplift the team and fans, not snail paced unoriginal boredom that sends everyone to sleep. Anyone agree, or is it just me being unpatriotic?

MJ is very good but Colin and Denise are good also. Not sure why you say CJ is disastrous.

Knobhead commentators who try to sound knowledgeable by pronouncing any foreigner's name with a S in it as Sh.

Same commentators who say ''he's the son of **** ******* (fill in the letters to spell any of 100s of ex players) ..... yeah ok at least we know now why this siht nuct is masquerading as a professional footballer.
