Because they sign up for a set period and the club invest time and effort in their development, so they have their services and another team doesn't. It's not unheard of in other fields either....I worked in medical research and the company could prevent me working for a similar company for a year if I wanted to leave. At my level it was rarely enforced, but it could be for a senior person with important knowledge. The players sign a contract knowing the small print...clubs couldn't plan if players could up sticks whenever they liked. If players challenge this, they could end up with very short contracts....great for the super rich, but providing no security for most players who won't even dare buy a house.
@AdamLeitchSport: Perfect response from @RonaldKoeman: "Victor Wanyama has two years more contract. Come on, come on." http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/13635584.Koeman_issues_warning_to_want_away_Wanyama/…
He's not terribly bright or terribly streetwise. And too trusting of this guy who has his own interests at heart, over his client's I'd wager.
I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume this is true. If he now knuckles down and gives us a good season, as Morgan did, I'll forgive him for acting like an arse. But I'm unlikely to feel any genuine affection for him, because we all now know he's off next summer come what may. Shame really, because his style of play was growing on me, despite his obvious limitations. Oh well.
Likewise. FFS fans don't boo him though - strikes me as the type of player that being like that would do us no favours.
Another thing we forget is that most football player are young and dumb... I did quite a few stupid things in my twenties...
Agree with Le Tiss. Just got back from the game and I thought Romeu was excellent. He nicks balls of attackers that he has no rite to get and unlike ****yama, his distribution was top drawer. Great article as well in programme about appreciating the chance Saints have given him. Thought all the players stepped up today, whether that was in part to ****yamas dummy spit, who knows. Solent and talk sport both saying that he will owe the players and staff a big apology if we make him honour his contract? We will see.
You have a contract at work? Is it a "Contract of Employment" as a normal employee or a contract over a period of time like a footballer. Maybe Wanyama should have asked for a zero hours contract... That'd be interesting.
What is the point of calling him that? Did you call Morgan every name under the sun when he did the same this time last year?
Think Wanyama needs to be benched for a couple of games to be honest, give him a kick up the arse. The midfield was very strong today, even before their sending off. Who said we need to be spending lots of money on players...?! Romeu £5m
Yep. Agreed. If he realises that he needs us as much as we need him, and let's face it we do right now, then I'll give him the benefit of second chance too. Any booing of him while in the pitch in a Saints shirt will be equalling his poor behaviour. That would be like trying to unsettle the team. Do not do it. Take the moral high ground and then in 12 months time when he returns with Spuds, we can abuse the crap out of him.
Morgan gave us seven years, for a start. Plus had no parts of his name early replaceable with an offensive term that reflected well his behaviour.
So? We don't know what Vic is going to do next. If he knuckles down like Morgan did there's no reason why the fans shouldn't get behind him.
