A question for the older posters actually, in the days of Waggy and Chillo was the football the best it's ever been? I have this fantasy ( a bit like Willson there) of us playing scintillating football in those times and actually going to matches expecting the ultimate in entertainment?

Seem to remember a cavalier free flowing, right kind of manager Blackpool losing to W Ham, dour negative Allardyce team in the play off final. Wonder how those two teams are doing now?

It's relative, in Waggy and Chillo era it was good attacking football with lot's of goals, but in the 3rd division and we were beating most team's with ease then. But the higher you go up this is less likely to happen for teams like ours, as we are never going to dominate the EPL or to a lesser degree the Championship like we did in the Waggy Chillo era.

If you've only seen a dozen very good performances in the past thirty years, then you're really **** at deciding which games to go to.

Pretty much agree with how we are now John, I wish I was born a bit earlier though to see the likes of Chillo and Waggy, can just barely remember when football was football and you got proper tackles and so on

I just don't think we've ever been reknowned for brilliant football ever in the period I've gone to matches and I can't remember seeing too many games where we've played teams off the park, and saying we should emulate Swansea or Southampton is wishful thinking, fair enough the club I gave as an example Barca was a bit extreme which was why Willson got his knickers in a twist

I tend to agree with this to a degree.
I said to my mate at work the same thing last week that we very rarely get a game by the scruff of its neck

The 1960s and early 70s were different times. Standing, no segregation, fans could walk around the ground in a circle, skinheads, fighting on the terraces plus the football. As a young lad I went first with my mother and then a short time with my mates from school before a Saturday job stopped all that. At the match you would see other people from your school or that you knew. You'd be pushed and shoved up and down Bunkers, it was fun, usually. Plus you had Wagstaff and Chilton scoring goals.

It may be an age thing but nothing today comes close to being in the middle of Bunkers/Kempton when there was a massive surge after we scored.

I think we need a sticky explaining this. People will still be "correcting" it by the time Clucas starts shaving at this rate.

I'm quite amazed at the number of people who don't know it, considering the majority of people questioning it seem to be regular users!

I never knew the origins of it until recently, when it was explained that our legendary resident psycho Doveston coined the phrase. Whatever happened to him?
