I almost wouldn't be surprised if they did that.

Some of that cost will be to replace the screen on Tom's TV set when he rushes at it and smothers the screen with sloppy kisses, before knocking the TV off the stand and smashing it while trying to mount the on screen image of Jeremy Clarkson :)

After the Virginia murders the subject of the proliferation of guns in the USA has returned. And guess what.? Someone in America thinks that the reason why they have more deaths through encounters between people is because they have free and easy access to guns. And they have data to prove it.

    http://www.vox.com/2015/8/27/9217163/america-guns-europe

Bit of a shocker that. Who'd a thought it.? <whistle>

    What his.?

Actually, he's possibly right. Irrationally enjoying gun ownership must be a psychological condition.

All of his bodyguards could be mentally ill.

The sad thing about this new revelation on guns, is that any politician who hints during their campaign that they'd back a gun law change, loses!

The trouble with that sentence is Trump thinks.

Him commenting on mental illness is the ultimate irony.

    Here's my prediction.

This whole thing ain't gonna work. Not even close. How many people are genuinely going to buy Amazon TV just to see Clarkson & co?

    1 - Tom.

The rest will pirate it and they'll sell a few DVDs after the event.

    It's a terrible, terrible idea.

Amazon will make a **** load of cash is mine (all from Tom). Amazon will just do what they do with other shows. Show it first on Amazon Prime then after a few months license it out to TV channels. They did that with Ripper Street and made a load of cash.

Well, I already have Amazon TV, which has some excellent original series like Outlander, Vikings and Black Sails, plus free access to loads of films and TV series (I've just finished watching all 73 episodes of the remake of Battlestar Galactica). The question is, will Top Gear be included in my subscription, in which case I might watch the first episode out of curiosity, or will I have to pay extra, in which case I won't.

Your point is a good one though LTL, as Amazon don't need Top Gear as a free to air show, and having it as a premium show won't attract enough new subscribers to make the vast budget worthwhile. It is a bit baffling, I must admit.

It's part of Prime. They also don't have to get all their money off just Prime. As I said before Amazon will show it first then sell the showing rights to various channels around the world like they do with other shows. That and sponsorship will mean they will make a hell of a lot of cash.

They showed Ripper Street on Prime months before they allowed it to be shown on BBC. That series is still getting around 4m viewers per episode which is higher then other programmes on at the same time. Amazon will only be getting bigger and bigger with more and more shows being shown.

I think I'm with Beefy. Internet TV is the future, sorry BBC. If anything this is a bit too early for Amazon to really catch a lot of the market, but it will help. Expect to see a lot more advertising and promotions soon.

Ah okay. Didn't realise they could/would re-sell the show. That makes more sense.

I agree with Beefy. Top Gear made millions for the BBC and they basically showed it for free. Amazon may well get a few more subscribers from this and will be able to sell the rights around the world for crazy money. I just hope Clarkson, May and Hammond don't suffer the same decline others have when switching network.

Fair enough, I must admit I hadn't realised Ripper Street was an Amazon Original as it was already on the BBC before I took out my Prime subscription. It would be ironic if the BBC end up buying Top Gear off Amazon!

Amazon bought it off BBC after the 2nd series as BBC had discontinued it. BBC seem to discontinue a hell of a lot of programmes.

They're not alone there. I'm thinking of series like Revolution and, more puzzlingly, Firefly.

That's true they do. For a national broadcaster, the BBC do a lot of experimental stuff. Some of it works, some of it doesn't. They are in an unique position, and none of it would happen if they had to get their revenue from advertising.
