Agreed, the title is misleading. People will assume I'm on about proper rugby. To clarify, this thread is about puff rugby (league)
Players are a lot fitter these days, but essentially it stills seems to be a case of a bunch of blokes running into each other for 5 tackles and then someone punts the thing and the opposition then do the same thing- for 80 minutes.
I dislike both types. I've never understood people's enthusiasm for Rugby League. I do think their fans are bigger whoppers than football fans though. The amount of Rervers fans who have come out of the closet this week is remarkable. None of them know what they're talking about.
Can't stand rugby and everything about it. Rugby culture is the worst and living in a city with two clubs Makes it all the more unbearable. For some people rugby is their entire life, they can't talk about anything else and wearing a rugby shirt as an outfit for a night out is embarrassing.
I drove by Half Way on Hessle Road last night. A woman in the beer garden with high heels, hot pants and....a big baggy Hull shirt on.
Coming out of the woodwork is what happens to all clubs in all sports all over the world when finals come around
I'm not a rugby fan but I don't mind wearing Rugby gear as it suits fat people quite well, I don't think I'd wear a shirt on a proper night out though just maybe to pub for a quiz or something
The more professional teams representing a city the more prestigious it is for that city. The higher those teams rank in their respective leagues the more respect a city gets as a centre for sport.......It's something to be proud of. When two teams from a city compete in the same sport there's bound to be intense rivalry, but to be bitter and resentful against teams in a different sport is just pathetic and small-minded.
Firstly I like Rugby (both codes) and always have. But the bitterness thing happens in all walks of life. Football, Liverpool & Everton, United & City, Rangers & Celtic, the list goes on. Pure hatred in some cases. I support Hull FC. but as I have got older my thoughts have changed about the rivalry. Yes I always want FC to beat Rovers and do better than them. Today I want Rovers to win at Wembley.
I dislike FC and always have and always will. I like Rovers and used to go watch them as you could sneak in easily. Ideally i want both clubs to go bankrupt and cease to exist.
The thing is rugby league is so associated with the north of England that I'm not sure a Hull team getting to the final is that helpful. To southerners it might well just confirm stereotypes as to what a place like Hull is like.
