Suspect he has a clue, but, until things are sorted, he is saying nothing. Why upset the fans for no reason if it might fall through at the last minute. Can't say it won't happen and then find the board has sold the player from under him. It's the old uncertainty principle.
I definitely wouldn't risk it at all. Don't want to get lumbered with a £15m white elephant. His knee really could be ready to go at any moment, and with all the jumping for looped in crosses and defensive clearances, that would put a lot of pressure on the knee. There has got to be a reason why no club seems to think the second highest English scorer from last season is worth £15m. Plus, there's got to be a Dutch or South American striker in someone's reserves who could do a job for us after a season or two's fitness training at Saints.
For me the Window should be slammed shut before a ball is kicked in the new Season, and all players held to their contracts, no exceptions.
Can you imagine if we signed Austin and his knee went just as Jay had a set back? As much as it would be nice to have another goal scorer I think having one with a suspect knee is enough for now.
Ever since Alderweireld left after Koeman had said he wanted to stay here I've found it hard to completely accept what he says in this sort of situation.
I have just realised that I am now in meltdown. I now believe we will sell both VW and SM. I believe we will bring in a couple of desperate loans. We will struggle to stay up. I can't help it. I am that demoralised by the desire of players to leave and by the awful non football we've been playing., Bring on Tuesday so that I can slap myself for thinking such tosh...
Toby may well have wanted to come here too, and told Koeman the same in private. He chose Spurs, because HE wanted to go. Koeman said/did nothing wrong.
I didn't say Koeman said or did anything wrong. He may well have believed what he was saying was true but if he was mistaken about Alderweireld he may be mistaken about Wanyama as well.
Trouble is people have their minds changed for them. He should never have been allowed to talk to anyone else without Saints permission he should after all still have been a Saints player technically, assuming they had got the contract right in the first place. I think on this occasion concerning Alderweireld our negotiators learned a little more about contracts. In future when they loan a player with a view to purchase they will make sure the contract is a bit more water tight.
I honk that's harsh on the club Beddy. At the end of the day, we could only ever sign Toby if he wanted to sign. He wanted to sign for Spurs, so that's where he went.
And like most others who have left, is having a pretty miserable time (football wise....but buck up when they see their grossly inflated salary slip)
