Does anyone else think the reason Short got him back was because he was a cheaper option than big Sam?? I think he is the best man for the job. We were difficult to beat last season but we did not know how to score a goal, this made things extremely diffiuclt if we went 1-0 down. I suspect he has been working on attacking more which has worked, We have scored in every game and 10 goals in 5 games. That's an average of 2 goals a game. Now its time to sort out the defence. Lets face it we have very average players, the only way we are going to do alright is if a manager gets them to over perform. Dick is probably our best hope for that and if he gets them playing his system I am sure its possible. Time will tell, we are where we are and as supporters the best thing we can do is support our club and current manager.
Are we not in danger of over thinking this? DA was not looking for a job in March and planned retirement anyway, offered a huge reward if he kept us up again and over a short time slightly altered the style of the team. Lens and MVi are making a difference in midfield so the changes are still taking place and we have injured players still to come back, who knows maybe even Alvarez. If he has got anything wrong then it is at the back but that is rectifiable with the players we have already. The length of his contract could be down to him as he has the option to retire at the end of this season regardless of the outcome. If he succeeds and we improve as he and us want he could very well extend it. In most cases manager's only sign two year contracts anyway, so he has gone for half with maybe an option on the second year.
IMHO Dick not to blame. Should he leave it will be because of false promises and no more new faces. If no-one else comes in - and I'm not talking third rate welsh full backs or past it italians or frenchman -I expect him to leave and we can kiss goodbye to a minimum of £50m for staying up one more season. The result of him leaving? A precarious march to avoid yet another point busting relegation, 30,000 crowds if we are lucky and the next manager building for the second tier by October. Mind you, I think we have been preparing for the second tier for the last two seasons.
Both of you struggling to count how many games you've actually played... 4 games played, avg of 2.5 goals per game
I don't think dick has any fault in this. He was begged back by short, and I don't imagine dick predicted or was told he had such a low budget. Dick said short is warey of paying big money because of previous mismanagement. But why beg dick back if you can't show him trust? It's a complete farce. We've spent 21mill aparently? And with 10mil back on whickham, that's an outlay of 11mill? Complete discrase. And it will continue to be a discrase unless we spend at least another 15mill in this window... If we don't, and we are dire again this season, I wouldn't like to be in Ellis Short's shoes whilst visiting the SOL.
I must be the only 1 saying this mate but if Dick doesn't get his budget then I still believe he can keep us up.. We are a better squad then last season tbf.. Stop whinging about no vagina dick.. Give the boys a kick up the arse and get stuck in
Your spelling is a 'discrase', you mag twat. Short will also be budgeting for worst case scenario with Alvarez and that will be about another 7.5m and an extra wage.
1 year contract for Dick, while we look for a someone who can come in long term and not being a last minute decision ? Just trying to think of a positive way to see it. I hope it was for that reason.
