It's a bit like people saying that Graham Carr scouted Ba and Cabaye and that they were unknown before we signed them. Not true in the slightest. Pardew was blessed in that we had one massive purple patch the season that we finished 5th. Coloccini, Krul, Cabaye, Ben Arfa and Ba were in the form of their lives. Cisse came in and was scoring ridiculous goals. Ba stopped scoring. Pardew then took the decision to stick Cisse out wide to cater for Ba and it all fell apart as it always does. We were woeful from that day on. Performances dipped to an unacceptable level. The guy simply ran out of ideas and persisted with coaching and tactics that were abysmal. Shocking derby performances? A 0-6 at home to Liverpool? 7-3 away to Arsenal? Not to mention two successive gutless 4-0's at Southampton on top of the many other woeful performances he 'managed.' He may do well at Palace. Some managers simply do well at certain clubs. For us though he was truly shocking and should have been sacked a long time before he finally pissed off.

Both improved markedly under Pardew, to suggest otherwise is folly. Hence they moved to two of Europe's elite clubs having been here. Shame on Alan for bringing in competition for Ba and having us enjoy our best spell since Bobby with them as part of a three pronged attack.

There is any amount of reasons for Pardews struggles which were well outside of his control. I see Palace are excelling at corners both attacking and defending, just goes to show how much that facet of the game is about personnel. He had his faults and was certainly no great, but under very trying circumstances did a very respectable job (bar some of his behaviour).

The lazy contention that any player was 'Pardewed' will always be disputed <whistle>

I don't subscribe to this Pardewed thing, but I take issue with his tactics, selection and substitutions during his time here. Those alone are enough to make me glad we're rid of him.

he screwed up with ba, the first season ba played far right with cisse up top which worked, ba kicked of in the summer to play up front which pardew agreed to and it went wrong from there.
Pardew is a one trick pony and has zero plan b of c, him leaving was the only positive from last season.

I disagree on all counts. First off when Cisse arrived, Ba played on the left not the right. Which worked because everyone was full of confidence and Cisse was in ridiculous form, once in a career type stuff for him.

Ba was our best striker. Cisse had a golden spell but as has subsequently been proven, it was a bit misleading. Therefore Pardew simply recognised that Ba was the better front man and played him there. If HBA hadn't been injured and such a ****, Pardew would not have had to use Cisse on the right. he could have just used him as a back up to Ba.

Pardew did a good solid job on limited resources.

Look at The players we had when we nearly went down in 2013?
His inability to motivate players look at the derbies for example.
His style of play was horrific.
Six weeks out of the his last 12 months should have led to his sacking

Did you ever get back to me on how long Pardew needs to keep being successful at Palace before it counts as evidence that he is a decent manager ?

Just want to have a date to put in my Outlook.

Each to their own. I view the squad we nearly went down with as very very poor. Indeed I view our squad for 95% of his time here as very poor and always paper thin. You yourself have alluded to another tough season this year unless we get new defenders. Bearing in mind we have Mbemba and Lascelles, is that not damning in itself?

I don't believe you can sit with a championship level defence for 5 years and expect to achieve much. We can't even compare with the current regime either, because this manager has thankfully already been backed in a way the previous incumbent wasn't. Perhaps Pardew was not the right man once investment came, but I'd argue he did a good job with the shoe string as we managed to stay in the division and pick up the TV money/sales money which is now funding a revamp of the squad.

This season doesn't count. He takes over teams mid-season and has a steady start. Next season, his teams do well. Season after the cracks begin to show. If he somehow survives another season - dog **** football and tactics and shocking results. West Ham, Charlton and Newcastle fans can attest to that.

Right so being successful for a year and a half means nothing. Some might say that is harsh but hey, these are your rules.

If he is successful from January 2015 until January 2017, would this be any evidence ? May 2017 ? Never ?

    Okay, same question for you.

Crystal Palace is hardly a plum appointment where the manager is guaranteed sufficient resources that anyone can succeed. How long does Pardew have to be successful as a manager at Palace before you accept it as evidence that he is a decent manager ?

Pardew has a **** track record, something his lovers conveniently ignore. A new manager can give any team a fresh but brief impetus. Successful for half a year can therefore happen to anyone - Gus Poyet a recent example. Kept the Mackems up and got them to a Cup Final. **** manager though, just like Alan Pardew. My original point was, give Pardew a full season/ couple of seasons to impose his horrible brand of football, his clueless coaching and tactics then see what happens. Once he really gets his claws into a club the rot sets in. It has happened everywhere he has been.

The phrases- 'Poor squad morale', 'Poor/ disappointing performances and results' are a common theme in his managerial career. Even at Southampton where he admittedly had some success, the squad morale was reportedly poor. A perfect example of his managerial 'skills' - The guy was responsible for getting Charlton Athletic relegated from the Premier League. Half a season of success? At Charlton, he took over as Manager on Christmas Eve 2006. By May 2007 [not even six months later] they were in the Championship. The following season 11th in the Championship. Season after that [2008/9] they were relegated to the First Division. Pardew left in November 2008 with Charlton in the relegation zone following his wonderful managerial stint. His track record:-

    Season 1 PL - Relegated
Season 2 - Championship - 11th [even though Charlton were one of the favourites for promotion]
Season 3 until November when he left - They were in the relegation zone and ultimately relegated to the First Division.

There is a reason why the Charlton fans absolutely despise the guy. He took an established PL side and turned them into a lower Championship/ Division 1 side within two years. Sound familiar?

The guy took us over and turned us into one of the worst PL sides. We were abysmal. He also has a record of losing more successive derbies than any modern manager. Not to mention the fact that he is responsible for some of the most gutless, disgusting and down right disrespectful performances I have ever seen from a Newcastle side. He had his best players sold I hear you say. So what? Doesn't excuse the attitudes of the players. If you listen to some of the players that were there when he left, they were actually glad to see the back of him and his ridiculous tactics.Training was farcical. Set pieces in games laughable. Tactically, he is/ was inept and god help us if we had to chase a game. He had a **** plan A and that was it. Palace fans have **** football to look forward to in time. They also have a wealth of excuses to look forward to. I feel sorry for them.

I'm not arguing a position. I am just asking a question.

As I understand it, you will accept 1.5 years of success at CP as evidence that he is a decent manager. Fair enough.

I'll diarise it for May and see whether Panthro is as right as Mr T usually was about most things.

    Arsenal...4-0 down at half time

    Just last season...

Palace away in the cup - nabbed a victory
Hull 2-0 down in the league home - nabbed a draw
Spurs 1-0 in the league away - nabbed a victory
Burnley away in the league - nabbed a draw

We'll not bother with his Palace record as the I'm sure we all know what the wonderous stats will tell us.

Its weird hwo some myths just become some peoples reality over time. Never underestimate the power of saying something enough, then people believe its true. Its the same myth about corners - he has the players at Palace and is scoring from them for fun. I wouldn't care, its not like there isn't a stick to beat him with that stacks up - behaviour on the touchline.

Well if the press say it must be true right? I prefer to listen to the players. The vast majority of which have only good things to say about him. Indeed I'm not sure I've read many bad comments?
