About 1.5m watching on TV as well, which isn't bad, about the same as a mediocre Premier League game on Sky or the most watched Premier League game on BT Sport.
Good luck Rovers. They've beaten Wigan & Wire to get there, so they've done it the hard way. Also beaten Saints this season in a great match & given Leeds a run for their money. So you never know. Great news Kelly is back. Marsh did nothing wrong last week against Widnes, but Kelly adds a lot to the team & more experience. Just hope he's 100% fit.
So it should be, it's the biggest single day out in the calendar of that game. I suspect the total attending at various other grounds for sporting events will be higher in total than that one single event. Which doesn't alter what I put, which was in response to "its been too long since a team from this city won something, time to do us proud". Which ignores City as well as a few other sporting achievements.
I can't think of too many other sports that will draw a 80k+ crowd with all those TV viewers for an annual event, then do it all again in 6 weeks for the grand final. There isn't a lot of point comparing to football, that's by far the biggest sport in the world and in the uk
If you are betting on rovers than back them with a start otherwise my friend you will probably lose your money. You can back Rovers with 14 points start at 11/10 from Stan James. So if Leeds win by 13 points or less you still win. Good luck Leeds are 1/5 for a reason. Rovers failed to finish in the top 8 and have had to playoff to stay in the cough cough Super League. don't let your heart rule your head Rovers fans...keep your money in your pocket Enjoy the game if you make the trip.
I wasn't just comparing to football. The combined totals at a few sports would possibly be higher. Good luck to them, it's not a bad thing. I just don't think it generates the degree of attention some seem to think.
My mates Dad is going. He last went to watch Rovers at their last final (1986). He is 78 and said "at my age I might not get to see them again" Bless him
Rovers are very inconsistent that's why they didn't even finish in the top eight how ever its a one off game so good luck Rovers. It might spoil a few Hull fc fans weekend if they win, I know it will my miserable neighbour, Come on Rovers
Actually Hattie if you want to do 'COD' stats, most people in the world don't care much about football either. What does that mean? Absolutely feck all if you enjoy a sport. It's not a pissing contest, it's an honourable sport like many others in which two teams are playing in their version of the FA Cup Final. Even though I am a football and rugby union man first, the RL Wembley occasion is really good. I've seen over 30 finals there at Wembley old and new and the atmosphere is generally friendly amongst the rival fans and just a bloody good weekend. Coming from a Rovers family background I hope the Robins pull it off. I hope they flash up the score at the KC occasionally.
Good luck Rovers. Do the Club, yourselves and the fans proud. Bring the silverware back to this great City
Other sports don't have a grand final. Though football semi finals get more and do it again a few weeks later for the final. Rugby union probably does something similar as well. Rugby league won't be doing it either unless they are extending Old Trafford's capacity by over 5,000 before the Grand Final. Rugby League is different anyway as lots of cloth capped northerners plan a trip to the big city no matter who is playing. Rugby league semi finals attract 15,000 for games compared to 80,000 for football ones.Far more at Challenge Cup Finals are neutrals than at football ones. The clubs allocation are less than the poor amount for FA Cup Finals. League Cup finals are better for the fans. Anyway, regardless of that good luck to Rovers. This city has a poor record of Cup wins. Castleford with a population the size of Brid has won it as many times as the two Hull clubs combined. Virtually every team has won at Wembley, a feat FC have never managed.
He said there was no point comparing it to football and so you respond with some long winded drivel comparing the two! Also probably best not to count trophies as City have never won a major trophy despite much smaller clubs from smaller towns winning plenty, glass houses and all that.
Even though I'm a FC fan I wish KR good luck in the final, any team from Hull winning something is good for the city!
You're not seriously trying to compare a trophy in rl to one in football are you? Hull sides are playing mainly villages in a sport where three or four wins gets you to the final. City have to play more games against clubs with finances that could challenge a small nation. If it's just a trophy count, the pensioners playing bowls could probably piss over both, it doesn't mean much though obviously. If you claim you don't want a pissing contest, it's best not to get involved in one.
It wasn't drivel, it was correct. A bit pointless going on about Grand Finals a few weeks after Cup Finals when other sports don't have them, their main trophy going to the club topping the league at the end of the season. Nowhere with a population the size of Driffield or Bridlington has won major trophies in football. Since the abolition of the maximum wage in the early sixties the only teams from a city with a smaller population than Hull to win the First Division/Premier League have been Derby and Blackburn. You can count on one hand the number of FA Cup winners from smaller cities than Hull. In that period the only times a team from a bigger city than Hull have won the cup was when Leeds, Bradford and Sheffield did. Sheffield after 5 years of existence equalling the total number of Wembley wins by the two Hull clubs. Comparing football and rugby trophies is pointless as there are far fewer teams involved in rugby and you have to play fewer games to win the league or cup. However, as I said, let's hope KR bring the Cip back to Hull. Though I think it is a big ask. I have a feeling that Rovers will either get thumped or sneak a narrow win. Just looking at the odds and seeing if I can cover all the angles to make a profit.
