Nicolas Cage is a very good actor.
Unfortunately for him, he has made some very ****ty films.

    Leaving Las Vegas was good.
His Action films are decent enough, if a little over the top (The Rock, Con Air, Face off etc).

Then there are the real ****ing corndog movies, 8mm, Gone in 60 Seconds, Snake Eyes,

    Indeed.
I remember watching it at the cinema and thinking "Yeah that weren't bad at all".
Like I said, just got loads of crap because it cost so much money and flopped at the box office.
But if you ignore the money side of things, its generally a decent movie.
Have seen much more ****tier films than WW do much better at the box office *cough* Star Wars Prequels

I will give you that... good call

the first one the phantom menace was truely abysmal. Mcgregor and neeson really set the tone. The clone wars was just ad bad and the final one the sith wars barely broke the trend.

I felt it was like the last indiana jones movie. they guys doing in (lucas primarally) were really not putting the effort in that they would hve done as young and hungry to deliver something.

    crystal skull was woeful too.

Crystal Skull was not very good no.
The Phantom Menace was a ****ing mess plot wise, nothing that anyone said or did, made a lick of ****ing sense from the first minute to the last and it was ****ing abysmal. The 3 way duel at the end is ****ing awesome though, so it gets a <ok> for that, and that alone.

Attack of the Clones was a CGI mess. The last 30 minutes may aswell have been a ****ing cartoon and the "romance" between Anakin and Padme was handled with all the subtlety and charm of a black face minstrels tour of the South African Prison system. Natalie Portmans midriff on Geonosis is the film highlight.

Revenge of the Sith took the cake because it did something I never thought possible, made me actually become bored during a lightsabre fight.
Did that ****ing fight really need to last 45 minutes, and did they really need to fight on a landing pad, then a hallway, then a control room, then a balcony, then a bridge, then on a floating platform in a sea of lava, then on a lava river bank... I mean ffs. Plus Anakins whole reason for turning to the dark side?

you've called it all right there.

I mean.. the phantom menace was a really poor effort.

This was meant to relaunch a dynasty.

they gave us.. really really weak acting.. ewan mcgregor was terrible.. the kid in it was dire, the whole plot like win jar jar and the gungan grand army was just slap stick which you cannot do in a movie meant not to be a send up.

yes the 3 way duel was good but even it had weak points. almost like they held back for lastr stuff

    ....

attack of clones was indeed a total cgi mess. the cgi just looks poor... the plot had holes you could drive a car through like the worse of all was queen amadala turning up on the planet to be thrown to the lions as it were, ripping here outfit to expose her midrif then shooting here blaster stupidly..

oh and it also had slap stick woith robots being useless.

    ..................

once can only hope that after years of "serious" super hero actions movies that those at disney have seen and realized that they need to keep the kids stuff on Disney junior and make a real action film here out of their new effort. It is after all yet another attempt at starting a new genre... i fear bringing back the original han solo and luke may tarnish the originals.

Well the fact that George Lucas has absolutely NOTHING to do with these movies is encouraging.
The best of the Original movies was Empire Strikes Back, which is the film on the original series he had the least amount of input on too.
He wrote the original draft of the script, then Lawrence Kasdan re wrote it and he, Irvin Kershner and the cast turned it into gold.
The fact that Lawrence Kasdan is also writing the Force Awakens is encouraging, plus JJ Abrams did a decent job with the Star Trek reboot imo, so I do have slightly higher hope for these new films than I did the Prequels I must say.

Lucas deserves Kudos for the original spark, and for getting the first movie out against all odds, but other than that, the guy is a douche nozzle. Who cannot write or direct to save his life.

    I agree on empire.

The original film was something i felt was excellent in of itself. It was done to tell a fable and I think what it is is prefect on its own.

Empire however was more of a darker film, more of a moving of the story along.... the final one was IMO just rehashing the first movie ending and just to complete the tale.

my sole worry is disney have invested a lot in kids cartoons and such and see this as something to market not something to make a great movie for adults out of.

its like the best batman movies were dark. the worst were comic book and poorly acted.... this has to build a threat not be a lego movie star wars to sell kids toys.

Likewise though, I feel Disney have done a great job with the Marvel movies since acquiring them, The Avengers and Thor, Captain America, Iron Man etc, have all been pretty decent superhero films.

I would say they have all been pretty good. a few have has some cgi issues in them but in the main... especially with iron man they've allowed people to be (while shallow scripts) adult and not be too pg.

They have milked them as well though so I am hoping they will refrain from over playing star wars.

there's only so far you can go with the thing before it becomes silly.. I'm how many sith lords can rise anyway?

Well thats the one bone of contention I have with the new film.
They came out the other day and said Kylo Ren is NOT a sith lord (the dude in the trailer with the mask and the dumb looking 3 bladed lightsabre).
Which set alarm bells off. Because there are only Jedi and Sith.
If the term "Dark Jedi" is used even once in this film, I swear I will walk out.

**** the EU, Chewie isn't dead, Boba Fett IS dead, there is no such thing as the Yuuzhan Vong, no such thing as Dark Jedi, Timothy Zahn can suck my dick.
The EU is worse than even the prequels.
So much fan fiction bullshit that has been written about SW in the last 30 years.
If nothing else I am glad that the new films are coming out, so it can show all these sad ****s that the books aren't canon.

thats straight out of the video games.

Jedi are temple based we've all seen this.

sith are based in some undefined place where they espouse a totally different set of values.

Palpatines training was never dealt with in any movie i think.. where did he start, where did his apprentice come from etc.

Fallen jedi like darth vader or say Revan in the video games are "convertable" back to the light side.

Sith seemingly are trained completely differently to be infighting and killing each other and rule out of fear.

who knows... this guy could be someone who's been tossed out of the order or someone who did whatever and took the easy path and the point is to bring him back to the light.

    I dunno...
