Evening Colognehornet. A different view of things I would suggest. Are you from abroad by any chance, or do you enjoy smelling sweetly? If the former we do have an exiles group on here. Anyway welcome to the Hornet board.
colognehornet - I can not think of a better way to introduce yourself onto a public forum. That is the sort of "first post" I wished I had made. No fannying about with the, "this is my first post" or "hello, my name is colognehornet and I have just signed up to this forum", just straight into a deep and meaningful discussion concerning the meaning of life with a joke!! I have rep'd you for that!! Anyway, some good discussion here, and it is good to see so many people with open minds, keen to do "the right thing". Very refreshing. It is also very refreshing to read mjw6150's post. So many people are afraid to admit their belief's, particularly when it involves "God finding you". It was a good read.
I wish that was true but I don't think it is sadly. Every day on the News you see people involved in such evil.
That's a fair question, my belief that Christianity is right is based on Jesus saying that He is the Only Way. As I believe Jesus to have been God Himself, I take that as the truth
Isn't that the same in any group? Even at my beloved Cardiff City we have lots of true, passionate and friendly fans but also a percentage of idiots!
I think your right ! although being ever so slightly biased we dont have many idiots on the watford board! and we are the original friendly family club ! Most visitors here tend to be well received , unless of course they are being rude!
Haha, I have never heard anything bad about Watford's fans but I guess every club has a crazy element. Maybe yours is just well under control haha
There used to be a time when I thought that weak people needing an emotional leg up were the religious ones! Now times have have changed , I suppose I am still a non believer, but my tolerance and understanding of others viewpoints has grown, Religion has a big part to play in bringing peace to the world ,even as warring factions use religion as as the main excuse!! I guess what I am trying to say is dont diss what someone else believes, as long as they dont try and force it down your throat! Islam anyone ......thought not!
It's only extremists of any religion that try and force it down your throat, including Islam. i've never met a muslim that tried to convert me or persuade me that their religion is better than mine. Nor have i met a Christian do the same. I have, however, met very religious Jews who have tried to 'save' me...because i'm not religious enough!
No Mormons or 7th Day Adventists round your way then? "..not religious enough.." - sounds a bit oxymoron-ish for me, you either are or you aren't! The Jewry's out on that one.
I live opposite Mormons, we've never even discussed religion (except for WFC! lol) We do get the occasional Johovah's Witness, i do love a good discussion on the doorstep, i can keep them yakking for hours Well, in the eyes of someone like Hitler or Humaini, or any other Jew hater, you're right. But there are so many 'levels' of Judaism, and very religious Jews think of me as worse than Christian because i 'claim' to be Jewish, despite my irriligious ways. (in their eyes.) It's complex, as religion can be! lol good one BB!
The way I see it with regards to speaking to others about your faith, you should always be wise and understanding of how the other person feels about it and whether they want to talk about it or not but I would never criticise someone for sharing their faith or opinion because if they genuinely believe that their faith is way to eternal life/salvation then I would hope they would try and tell others! If people I know weren't bold enough to share their faith I would never have come to know God like I described in my earlier post At the end of the day, whatever they say, it's always up to you to ignore them, debate them or to believe them and they should never force you to make a choice.
As a Christian I hope religion does die. Religion is about rules and regulations but being a Christian is not about rules, it is about a loving relationship with God through Christ. You cannot earn Salvation because it has already been earnt, you can only ask for it.
When i was at Univ. and very much into meditation etc.. I was invited round to tea by a group of chritian union students who told me i was going to hell unless I followed their version of christianity...
Very impressive and thought provoking posts which have manged to distract me from what I should be doing. My big problem with religion concerns 'worship' . I can understand people of similar beliefs gathering together on a regular basis but the whole idea of worshiping an individual or entity worries me a lot. Any god who requires to be worshiped on a regular basis must have tendencies towards megalomania or low self esteem. I probably respect the beliefs of the Red Indian and Aboriginal tribes more than those of the developed world.
As do I. As a teacher, I'm required to teach my classes about 'Other World Religions' - and by far the most popular lessons are those on the Aboriginal Dreamtime. Novelty value maybe, but far more interesting than the traditions of worship that pervade 'modern' religious education - the kids always ask for more.
A bit too much walking involved but I always liked the idea of singing places into existence. Do you think we could sing a new striker into Vicarage Road?
