I'm aware of that, but have you seen some of the things they get up to in the wild? Bad fellers.

Orca are sexy beasts. If I lived in the ocean I'd do 'em.

Just making a small joke based on the amount of shows and urban myths that claim they are utterly vicious.

If you Google vicious koala you will see.

Mostly you see stupid tourists annoying the animals in zoos or in the wild and the little guys drop on their heads and scratch and bite .

    Just a small joke

Top predators in the ocean. Whatever the Prey they will find away to catch it and eat it. Luckily aside from Captive Orcas they are pretty kind to Humans.
They can do everything from creating bait balls out of shoal fish to harrying and killing Blue Whales. Awesome intelligence and a high degree of cultural transmission.
Alot of people think Dolphinaria is now banned in the UK. This is not the case, However, the dimensions of the required pool are such that nobody sees it as financially viable. It is disgusting some of the tanks they used to be kept in in the UK. In the 70s At Dudley Zoo a 6m orca was kept in what was about an 8m pool. Of course it died pretty quickly. Subject is quite close to my heart, Did my degree in Zoology with thesis on cetecea and one of my favorite hobbies is studying maps of old zoos...Life of the party me.....

You see its the whole of idea of the victorian zoo that fascinates me, although no longer practical with modern space requirements and breeding programes. You used to be able to go to the zoo and see a ridiculous number of large mammalian species in a relatively small park. I guess the first proper zoo was the menagerie in the tower of london where many Barbary lions were housed in the Lion tower, eventually the collection got too large and was moves to a site in Regents Park where it is still in existence. It still shocks me today when you compare modern maps with old that in an enclosure currently occupied by a familly of small insect rating rodents, their used to live a Brown Bear on a pole. I could go on, but any further excitement could be seen as an attempt at foreplay so ill leave it....though in truth im now going to look at google earth and search for abandonned zoo photos on google

I love it when a topic appears like this and we learn something new about one of our group of reds.

The Orcas also drag the sharks backwards to drown them.

Clever batards indeed. That shows awareness right there

    why FFS?

i googled it yesterday and learned https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cetacea
and following the rathe rinteresting species names on this found that hippos are more closely related to whales than with cows for instance.

If my uni had a degree in zoology, macro biology, genetics, evolution or ecology that's what I would have taken.

Unfortunately they only had plain "biology" and "bio chem". Both focused on microbiology and chemistry far too much... I hate both those subjects so switched to "computer/business" in my last year. (you can do that in the US... I had been taking computer and business classes for my electives as a back up plan)
