I bet you'd have been on if you hadn't been at the back.

Makes no difference if it was good natured or not invading a football pitch is against the law so they are still commiting a crime. From what your saying if I go out and give someone a good hiding on the street despite the fact I broke the law as long as I say it was good natured and in pre-season I'm ok.

In answer to the question of this post, the only recent official statement
    is this by Pardew:

STATEMENT from Newcastle United Manager Alan Pardew

    http://www.nufc.co.uk/articles/20110716/club-statement_2281670_2394246

Judging by the statements I've read today by the Police, Stewards and even JoeyB
the start of the pitch invasion would've been taken in the light of what it was, light
hearted excitement among a load of football starved fans and that would've been
the end of it with the whole thing forgotten. The trouble is the fact that a minority
let rip among one another which totally altered things and probably sadly everyone
is going to be branded with the same 'crime'.

In the future, any benefit of doubt will now have been nullified and should
it happen again, I've no doubt there will be little sympathy/leniency shown
to those that really ought to know it's something you just can't do.

It's going to hang around now and be trotted out by the moron wums and
trolls but more worryingly in this current transfer window, something that
may actually harm people's opinions on the club and it's support. Just hope
HBA and Cabaye are not pissed off as I'm sure that's not what they signed
up for after NUFC has managed to build a great reputation in France.

Unfortunately, a good reputation takes ages to build yet minutes to ruin.
I just really hope this whole thing doesn't have bad consequences.

Jaywalking is also against the law, but a lot of people still do it. Eating an apple in some hotels in a certain state in America is illegal. Laws aren't always rational. Going on a football pitch under the circumstances that they went on is practically the same as someone walking on your garden and then walking off. Yes, it's trespassing but nobody would take you seriously if you tried to take them to court

    Where's this police statement?

I'm only interested who is actually being targeted for punishment as in if it's just the brawlers or everyone on the pitch.

Trouble is, you just DON'T invade the pitch. It's never right whatever the reason, precisely because no-one knows your reason for doing it. You might be in high spirits, you might want to twat someone. The stewards and police don't know and really don't care.

I'm not knocking your lads, but I sure ain't giving them any sympathy either, because they should have stayed in the stands.

The fact that they ran on the field isn't the problem , it's the 20 idiots who started fighting Darlo fans and stewards that are the problem. If this hadn't happen and everyone had immediately returned to the stands a few seconds later , we wouldn't be talking about it right now.

It was just a friendly and they got a little excited with the "If Sammy scores we're on the pitch" song.

But running onto the pitch WAS the problem. They may have had nothing in their hearts but peace and love to all men and just wanted to buy the Darlo lads a coke, but it then got out of hand for the simple reason that it COULD get out of hand. That's why you should never invade the pitch. Ever.

People run on the pitch when they get promoted doesn't end in fighting, your lot run on the pitch a few times against us only been trouble once when they were goading our fans. So it shouldn't have caused what followed. As I said earlier on your board that they were just very stupid.

No. The problem is the people that took it too far. The others contributed in a tiny way. But the real problem is the fighters. Whether it's after a pitch invasion or after the game in some back alley.

Fans stay off the pitch, end of. OK, if you get promoted at the end of the season, you may have the exception that proves the rule. But fans of any club belong in the stands.

I stand by what I said, looking back it was ****ing hilarious! The fighting was a joke, and those that went into the centre circle were a bit of a joke but the rest was funny, all part of football banter, brought a bit of life to a boring game! No real harm done, SOME mackems taking it too far obviously, taking the moral high ground, but were the shoe on the other foot and they had a sense of humour?

If Sammy scores we're on the pitch, he did, so they did! Funny man.

I hope you say the same if Sunderland fans run on the pitch after they've scored against us in August.

Would of been a bit awkward if we just stood in the stands without at least a few people running out :)

We did sing the song after all.
