More importantly, how many seconds would it take Twitter to assume we only signed him to sell shirts in the Far East?
I don't get this "not top 4 quality" thing. Is Michael Dawson top 4 quality? He was in both of our squads that made it in recent years. Assou-Ekotto played 64 league games out of a possible 76 in those two seasons. Was he good enough? Charlie Austin would be good for us for a variety of reasons, in my opinion. He's a good goalscorer who is a threat in the air and in the box. Being able to rest Kane and bring in someone else to do the line-leading role would be great. The fact that he already knows the league and has scored a good number of goals in it is a big bonus. That he's done so living in London is another plus. I don't think that he'd cost anyone any game time, as we don't have direct competition for him. He might even gain people time. Playing him in the Europa League or the domestic cups could be the difference between progress and elimination. I think that various players that we've got could learn from him, too. We've got no experienced attackers at all. We don't have much experience throughout the squad, but it's virtually nonexistent up top, unless you include Adebayor. Being tested by him in training might give our defence something to think about too, when they're lapsing during games.
I'd be very happy signing the equivalent of Larsson and Owen - top quality players who are a bit past their best could be just what we need. But Austin doesn't tick any boxes for me.
I'd rather have Austin now then Owen when he was at Utd. He was a bit crocked and his punditry is ****ing ****, too!
Of course every team will have players in the squad who can come in a do a job, I just don't understand why we'd want to buy more of those, we've got enough already. I may be completely wrong about Austin but no other top club seems interested so why should we be?
Maybe there's plans to buy both? (wishful thinking I suppose, bearing in mind we never make a net spend.)Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't Son spend a lot of his time out on the left, but also plays central? We need a winger and a striker, so i guess he can give us that versatility?! Chadli doesn't do enough over 90 mins IMO, but saves himself by popping up with the odd goal and/or assist. It also kills me to see Eriksen on the left when we have such few creative options in the squad when we need someone attempting to pull the strings from the middle. Eriksen's not got a great deal of pace and he's not very influential there, and is just wasted. - I'm sure a couple of months back I saw some stat about how Eriksen had covered about 400km last season, which was more ground than any other premier league player. It's great to see someone who works their socks off, but to me, that doesn't sound like the best use of a creative player! As for Son, apparently since 2012 only 3 other players to start 75+ games in the Bundesliga have score more goals than him. (1 goal every 225 mins). - 2 of which are Muller and Lewandowski. If he is spending his time out on the left, that's a not a bad return. - and lets be honest, it won't take a great deal to be better than lamela! I wouldn't be against signing him at all, but I suppose an element of desperation is creeping in as it does at this time every year....
We don't have any other players in the squad that can come in and do a job up front. I believe that strikers are a fairly specialist position and that sticking someone makeshift up there rarely works. I wouldn't have a midfielder in goal and I wouldn't have one up front, either. As for other clubs not being interested, there are some, but they either don't want to pay the fee, think they can get it reduced or have suitable options. Other clubs miss out on good signings all the time, anyway. Why didn't anyone challenge Villa for Benteke or Swansea for Bony?
LOL no! Mixture of different factors mate, which resulted in me losing touch on here. wont bore everyone with the details!
just seen a tweet from a SSN journo that I follow. - apparently there is interest in Min Son, but he's not here having a medical as other reports have suggested. He's in Germany and isn't very well.
Who knows? As long as we still go for an out and out striker, i'd be happy with this. I agree with PNP over Austin. I've always liked him and he's scored goals at every level. Plus I don't reckon he'll cost £15m on deadline day. If Berahino is gonna cost £25m+ i'm struggling to workout how we justify that increase in spend. He's just not worth that, IMO.
For what it's worth, I don't think we should spend that money on Berahino although I do think he is the sort of player we need. WBA have bought in two strikers, probably in the knowledge that Saido will leave. With respect, they don't want 3 expensive strikers. If they have decided to dig their heels in, then leave them be. Come , January he will be cheaper. Let's not be like the Chelseas and £itys of this world and just up our bid according to the selling team's whim.
B&W, I agree. - just looking at their official squad list fro mtheir website. West Brom have Berahino, Ideye, Anichebe, Lambert, and Rondon!!! surely more than 1 has to go? It's crazy to think they have 5 and we only have Kane. That's farcical, from both teams.
Are we being linked with players because they're ill or are they "ill" because we're being linked with them?
