I think Gordon is an excellent keeper. One of the best in the league when fit. There are a couple of sites stating he's "almost certain" to leave us as we won't renew his contract until he's fit again.

Personally I hope he stays and plays for us but people seem to forget that, when he was bought by Keane we were under different ownership and Short cleared the debt when he bought the club which means that if he walks away next summer for free then it's not all as bad.

Like to know everyone's opinion on Bruce's apparent stance over Gordon.

Personally I think he's doing it right. Once he's fit then sit down and talk to him about a contract. but this also gives us back up in case he can't prove his fitness and if we hive him a 3 year deal now and he plays 5 times cos of injury then we're throwing money away

Gordon does not command his 18 yard box. He cannot defend a corner. He does not organise his back 4.

Otherwise he is world class. A bargain at £9m.

Mig is a better, more commanding keeper.

I disagree. Mig is not more commanding, but needs to be.

World class shot stopper but everything else is left to be desired. I think Bruce is doing the right thing.

Did I read somewhere that Gordon has only played about 50 games in the last three seasons?
    (I may have that wrong)

    This.

Somehow I don't think our current owner will share this opinion. From a business point of view it makes no sense.

Can't see how anyone can say MIG commands his box. I like mignolet but he has a lot to learn and at times the defence were terrified of him last season. He could order a Chinese! (imo)

May not make good business sense but it wasn't Ellis short's business that paid that for Jim. And what is we give him a contract and he never gets fit? Think that'd be much worse business sense

If Gordon is fit he could become the very best. Van der Saar, Southall, Shilton, Jennings, Schmeichel etc were all top players well into their late 30s. Gordon's still young and as good a stopper as there is already. He can work out his weaknesses over time as long as he stays injury-free.

One of the best keepers around. the lad just needs to get his fitness straight and there is no doubt about his quality. If he does leave, which looks highly likely, I hope he goes to Arsenal where they can offer him Champions League football...

When he's on his game Gordon is a good keeper.....just happens he's been injured for quite a while.Still has much to offer the club in my opinion.

Gordon IF fit is a top keeper but, he is not fit enough. We have seen how good he is in certain games and if he could sort out his fitness then we should keep him. Bruce may have got this one wrong in my opinion he should have gave him an extension of a year to sort his fitness out then sit down and talk about a bigger contract. Leaving it the way it is means he could leave for zip in a years time 9mil down the pan.
As for the Mignolet debate I don't think he is a better keeper than Gordon not yet but, he has the potential (there's that word again) to be an excellent keeper. Westwood I think will be no.2 to Mig for the start of the season then it'll be a battle between the two for the no.1 jersey. Good competition for the keepers spot and good for SAFC.
