This might sound terrible... but if there is any comfort that can be taken from this, It's that his family won't be in limbo for months like Jules family were. Motorsport can be so cruel... just feel totally shell-shocked right now.
Tragic news from Pocono. Utterly tragic. Justin Wilson. Amongst the nicest of people one might hope to meet in a lifetime. A truly wonderful guy. Full of humility. Well liked wherever he went and technically superior to most. At almost 6 and a half feet tall, he was also something of a giant amongst his contemporaries; but that accolade extended well beyond his physical stature… What a terrible, terrible tragedy. My thoughts are with the Wilsons, especially 'little' brother who idolised Justin. Simply devastating.
Well said, Cosi. It's such a terribly sad loss to IndyCar and the racing community as a whole. My heart goes out to his young family.
It's not nice, but totally agree... Can't even begin to imaging the prolonged horror his family went through, it's not a comfort but at least they will get closure a lot quicker Rip Justin. Another talent gone in what has been a dreadful few years for Motorsport in general.
I have to feel for Sage Karam right now too... Though he can't be blamed for the terrible outcome, he must feel awful.
Tragic news. RIP Justin. So sad that another Brit has died in Indycars, the death of Dan Wheldon is still in the memory. Thoughts are with his family and as Sarge has said, spare a thought for Sage Karam who is only young and must be going through a bad time with this too. Justin's name was always the first one I looked for on the results sheet. He flew the flag for Britain proudly as a racer and a gentleman. RIP

Horrible, horrible news, and the great racetrack in the sky has another competitor. Surely closed cockpits now require significant research, rather than conjecture now? The FIA need to be spending time and money to come up with the best solution possible, and see if it's good enough.
The way he hit it you knew it was going to be bad, then into the wall unconscious. Once again thoughts are with the family, they can take some small consolation in knowing he died doing what he loved and wouldn't have know anything about it. As to closed cock-pit canopies, I'm against them. Knee-jerk reactions to tragedies such as this usually cause more problems, I have no wish to see another Roger Williamson. And LM cars have doors, not canopies
This. Other problem with 'canopies' on F1 cars is the problem with cockpit heat. They are already extremely high and with the canopies trapping in more heat surely you would also have problems with the drivers? Imagine driving somewhere hot and effectively sitting in a Sauna with a greenhouse for a roof? Also consider that they'd have to be fitted with windscreen wipers to clear all the muck, fluids, debris etc and you may as well just have WEC cars. Not sure what the answer is, but unless you completely scrap open cockpit racing then there will always be the risk that something like this could happen again. Tragic as it is, everyone who participates knows of the danger, but there is the hope that something like this would never happen to you.
Though full canopies may not be the answer, there needs to be some serious thought given to what can be done to protect drivers heads better. I totally agree that there shouldn't be knee jerk reactions, but solving this problem needs to be a priority.
