Come on guys, he's not set the world on fire in his first 5 games this season, we should probably start throwing things at him in the stadium and send him to Portsmouth for the rest of his life.

Good to see rubbish Targett is in the England U21 squad along with JWP and Jack Stephens!

He's had very little cover, this season, and he will pass forward if a player puts himself in a position to receive a forward pass.
I highlighted this last week, against the Danes, how JWP always came short, and inside, forcing him to pass sideways or back. Yet when Mane swapped sides with JWP, he offered different angles for the pass, including some down the line.
No good hitting aimless passes forward, might there is no one there to collect them.

I still lay the first half blame with the two strikers for this not JWP. There was buckets of space in front of Targett, because JWP had tucked in (I think that was good play), but neither Pelle nor Jay made one arced run into the space for him to pass to. Jay did it very early on the other side and he nearly scored.

It's fans like you who stunt the growth of players. So many people are shouting and aiming abuse at him in the stadium at the moment just because he's had a few poor performances. He needs support to gain confidence and play better, not be put down and shouted at every time he gets the ball.

Harrison is revelling in it. <laugh>

A uni friend is mates with him, and strangely enough, they were a central midfield pairing for their school. Said he's a really likable guy.

Lucky for Targett he wasn't paired with kelvin - Kelvin could have destroyed him!

    Good, thanks!

Based in Eastbourne this year, due to move into a nice house right on the seafront (like, literally) at the end of this month.

I think targett has done alright to be honest. Trouble with (some of) our fans is if they see someone put in a poor cross they remember it for about 18 years

Strewth guys some of you are very critical of young Matt. You forget he is still a youngster and has been thrown into the deep end. Any one that has anything to do with football will tell you covering for someone for an odd game or two is a hell of a lot different to having to be top notch game after game. We have not had a really settled side yet for a variety of reasons, especially on the left . He will have been given much different instructions when covering for Bertrand than when he is playing on a regular basis. Especially on the attacking front and as others have said the lad is only 19!! Yes he has made errors but tell me which defender hasn't?
For goodness sake keep encouraging the lad, he will learn. He is a stand in and not a bad one, there isn't anyone else either, unless you want Yoshida as an alternative.
Give him a break for goodness sake!!

I remember how useful Targett was last season...he will be fine.

However, we have learnt from this that he has a missus. <laugh>

He was brilliant against Norwich, and brilliant last season. I'm going to get behind him and give him a chance to develop.
