This is an excellent expression. It's a real shame. That's actually all it is at the moment, a real shame we're not firing as everyone on this board (resident Pompey fan excluded) wants. It's life though and things don't always go the way we want, so I thank you for using those words, they sum it up nicely. Not the end of the world, not a disaster but a shame.

I think part of the problem is that people, for whatever reason (though it doesn't make someone more 'right'!), seem to post in absolutes a lot on here - "This HAS to happen", "It DEFINITELY isn't" etc etc. which kinda kills the start-out point to discuss something sensibly. People need to accept there may be different opinions, and also accept that perhaps what they say can be wrong.

It's odd - people seem to have this thing where they're supposedly scared/don't want to post because they'll get "shouted down", then if anyone has the temerity to dispute their opinion they run behind the "I'm being shouted down" comfort blanket. Nobody is being shouted down, people just disagree. Sometimes the majority disagree, which may be the point at which your opinion needs some self-examination. It might also be the point where you're standing alone, and you're right. There's nothing wrong with standing strongly by an opinion, but there's also a great benefit to allowing your opinion to be challenged, and sometimes to adjust that opinion.

Yes but when I say I'm disappointed with the start to the season you say I'm throwing my toys out of the pram - that's hardly countering my opinion! I feel I'm justified in being disappointed. I am disappointed we've only managed to beat Vitesse this season. I'm disappointed, actually no make that dismayed that we got ripped apart by, with exception of a couple of players, a distinctly average Everton side. Beefy was even calling them potential relegation candidates a couple of weeks ago. We've got 2 points from 3 games. If we keep that points to games to ratio up, we're going down. NOT that we will before anyone bites my head off but I feel that's just cause to be disappointed. And as for the shots on target in the Watford game, how many of them were clear cut chances?

Tom, if your posts after the game had said, "I am disappointed with our start to the season," not a soul would have disagreed with you. We all wanted a better start. You didn't quite word it like that and if you just go back up to LTL's post a couple up, you may understand what I am saying.

it's not exactly like that. I have no problem to voice an opinion for which i can reasonably expect to be unpopular with the majority and I'm ready to defend that opinion in a discussion. The problem is when posters, rather than engage in the discussion with someone to prove him wrong, will go on to post thing like 'people are losing their **** again', 'it looks like a meltdown', 'better not to read the comments', 'better not to post for a while on this board' ecc. Happens here quite a lot and that's probably why some posters are reluctant to voice their concerns.

Take your point. But then that's also an opinion, that people are overreacting. It's not a 'shutdown', but can see that it might be frustrating.

Hmm. My opinion (which I know is OK with you) is that he sounds angry to me and has done for some time. I'm not remotely upset that he has an opinion (opinions are why I'm here). I am, however, concerned for Tom that he sounds (to me) permanently angry over the past few weeks. All I was suggesting is that he should put the game and the forum into perspective.

Good. Genuinely - it wasn't a debating point, it was concern.

A lot of people weren't happy when about Dec/Jan time I started questioning Pelle. I don't remember many people agreeing with me or me moaning that people didn't agree with me.

Now I don't go to every game, but sorry guys, yesterday was the quietest away support I can remember at Vicarage Road.

After the last few years, of success and improvement, expectations and impatience are at an all time high.
The start of this season hasn't been as good as most wanted/expected and there are several posters on several forums who are struggling to deal with this.
We could have won at Newcastle, despite having a very unbalanced team, so although we only took 1point, it was a good result because Newcastle are a stronger team than they were last season.
The Everton defeat was again due to an unbalanced team, and set up, which fitted perfectly with the way Everton played.
The Watford game was woeful, again because of the team set up, which was understandable but the expectations of some, that all promoted teams are cannon fodder, is ridiculous. Watford are unbeaten and Bournemouth could easily be top of the table with 9 points, had they had a little luck.
Some people really need to get a grip and stop acting like "big club supporters" who think their team only has to turn up to win.

It was a very flat atmosphere. The game was poor but still a bit surprised it was so muted. Mind, if I was anything to go by it was probably an attack of nerves all round. I was convinced you would Nick it at the death!!

By the way, my mate's season ticket price at Watford this season is £230 for a senior citizen; not bad that.

Mind you, he's not seen a goal yet :)

They don't have goals on Vicarage road? No wonder we couldn't score.

Just looked at gallery: thank goodness Romeu has lost the bog brush look. Now all he has to do is grow some hair.
