They don't need to change the tyre manufacturer. What needs to change is the idiotic tyres Pirelli have been told to build.

So two of them moves were executed while off track. Why is he getting so much praise for doing illegal moves? I don't get it.. That's like praising someone for taking drugs.

Think it's just that everyone is fed up with watching boring races and his off track excursions make things a bit more interesting.
I do think they need to publicly clarify what is allowed in ref to white lines during the race. If it was not OK to put all 4 wheels off track in practice then should not be allowed in race (to maintain or gain advantage).

In the past the track limits were guarded by grass, gravel, or walls. This kept people in line, it's not like the drivers can't do it now, Monaco etc is hardly a destruction derby.

Everyone makes mistakes, punish those who clearly gain an advantage and then punish those who stray off line more than 5 times or whatever in a race. Blanket punishment would be wrong in my mind as it would make drivers more cautious at the cost to the fans viewing. But knowing that doing it too often means a guaranteed punishment would stop them from doing it on purpose.

Most drivers were cutting the top of Eau Rouge by the end with all four wheels over the white line.

I can understand why you wouldn't want a high kerb at the top of Eau Rouge to launch a car off should it go offline, but clearly drivers were constantly abusing track limits. Surely a rounded kerb would be enough of a deterent without putting a car in a dangerous situation if it were to go over it.

Give a driver an inch, they will take a mile.

Doesn't stop the issue of track limits though as can't have gravel traps too close to the edge of the circuit otherwise it just showers the track in stones. Plain old grass strips are enough to reduce traction and grip to the extent its not worth a driver cutting a corner, plus associated risk of a puncture with the paper Pirelli's they now have.

Would be interesting to get an onboard for a whole lap before Vettels tyre went boom, see if anything obvious jumps out. The onboard camera was a rear facing one on Vettels car so we'd get to see exactly happened to that right rear.

or, an electronic switch that puts the engine into pit mode if all 4 go over the line, the technology is available.
I thought the drivers took the piss most of the weekend with the track limits, Bottas 2nd Q3 run shouldn't have counted as he had all 4 off for about 40 yards after exiting 11, getting a good fast run into Pouhon, I think Grosjean beat his first run by a few thousandths.
What is the point in enforcing them during practice when it means nothing?

That would probably upset the guy directly behind who would find himself rapidly catching suddenly <laugh>

How about fit all cars with high speed camera, add up all the time a car spends off track, then add that to their race time?

So if a driver has built up enough gap to the car behind he can start cutting corners completely? Whatever system you use to legislate the drivers will abuse it within the letter of the law. You have to enforce the rule as it is, it's a simple enough rule.

But think of the headlines we could generate when a driver loses a win by 0.001s through debatable time penalties <ok>

Rules are rules, yet no one seems to be enforcing them. Punishing the drivers who 'didn't leave the track'

Lotus have publically thrown Maldo under a bus with regards his Spa retirement, blaming his driving for the failure.

    That relationship is going well.
