All of this Bolt/Gatlin stuff will be short-lived because Andre De Grasse's going to rule the world soon enough.

Day Three! Well done Greg Rutherford on qualification. It would be brilliant for him to get the gold in the Men's Long Jump because then he would have achieved the full house "World, Olympic, European and Commonwealth." If he achieves success, I would nominate him for Sports Personality of the Year as he has been successful in a non glamour event that takes dedication, timing, balance, fitness, strength and skill in achieving a great leap. Following Team GBs success in the European Championship last summer, it was interesting hearing the words of Steve Backley urging youngsters to pick up the shot putt, javelin, hammer, try the long and high jumps, and the pole vault because not everyone one of them is going to become a great professional footballer but might find an avenue to stardom through one of these disciplines.

Nice to see an Olympic Stadium used for what it's designed for.

Well said. The Anniversary Games at the London Olympic Stadium recalled how good that place looked, I thought, but the Bird's Nest is impressive. It's slightly insulting to Athletics that Football is going to be the major user of the London Stadium, in my opinion. It'll never feel quite right unless an Athletics event is taking place in there.

Can Dapne Schippers shatter the stranglehold that Jamaica and USA have on the women's sprint events? I think she will. Looked easy in her semi-final qualification and with the quickest time. Where are our sprinting girls?

I see Americans are saying Bolt must be doping as he beat Gatlin who is a drugs cheat. Some are even saying every athlete is a drugs cheat.

And the dispute Andy Vernon has with Mo Farah reared its ugly head yesterday, when Gabby Logan, perhaps unnecessarily, mentioned a barbed congratulatory tweet Vernon had made. Anyway, here is a BBC Sport article on the subject:

Is the guy just really salty? Why is it Mo's fault that he didn't get picked?

I don't know enough about it Beef. I've occasionally come across the dispute in the news, but it seems to go a long way back. British Athletics just doesn't pick him and Farah is the sole runner in the 5 and 10K. That does seem odd, as they usually will pick at least two people providing they have done a qualifying time. I assume Vernon has, or what would be the deal.?

Incidentally, Vernon comes from Fareham. Doesn't fill me with pride.

Kirwani James looks absolute class in the 400m. We have a Brit in the final but it isn't Martyn Rooney who ran a very poor race.

This was the American hypothesis last time out when their male sprint machines were absolutely smashed.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before but Michael Johnson is an extremely good analyst and communicates his points very well indeed. He barely leaves a stone unturned. The Beeb must be delighted with him.

Absolute brilliance from the Kenyans getting the first four places in the 3000m steeplechase. Not sure if that is a first!! Loved the way they controlled the race and then burned off everyone else in the last lap!!
