I guess I should have expected that sort of response! Obviously your finding this a difficult question, when you have to commit to whether it is or not and your team's chances for this season
Tough question- two Sheffield clubs, Preston, Huddersfield, scunny and us does represent some very tough competition. Then you have the brentfords of the world who will push you every step of the way. So to answer, I don't think it's weaker- I actually think every year we stay here it gets tougher.
yes giving you my proper answer now brb it's definitely a weaker league than it was when we entered it 2 seasons ago when there was the likes of Southampton, Leeds, Norwich, Millwall, even last season still had Peterborough and a re-juvinated Brighton. None of those teams are in the league this season. I think what also didn't help was playing Gillingham treating our 2 matches like cup finals and costing us points for it while we took 6 pts from the other 3 sides who went down. Last season we had Dagenham instead of Gillingham, this season neither of those 2 teams will be there treating us as 2 cup finals again definitely weaker than last season and a lot weaker than 2 seasons ago and we need to capitalise on it this season
I don't see it in terms of 'weaker' or 'stronger', brb, rather than 'different'. There's all the teams that SC has mentioned and I expect Chesterfield to start like a train, but IMO the one thing that can't be factored in is the amount of players that have changed clubs within the division and the amount of good players from relegated teams that have joined sides in this division. There's been a lot of movement and his should refresh the division no end. Oh yes, forgot to mention - we're going up.
I think last season was our best chance at promotion, it was a weak league last year with Brighton being the only side of quality. Southampton, Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Peterborough etc were average, with the promoted teams going up more through luck than ability (apart from Brighton). I expect this year to be the toughest, yet our squad seems strong so here's to hoping CP has what it takes to get us up
I don''t care what other teams are like if we win all our games then I think we have a great chance of being Champions
It's in our hands at the moment lads... I reckon it's weaker than 2 years ago, and weaker than last year. Brighton, SCC and Peterborough represented two and a half of the best teams in the league last year (P'Boro's defence aside), Norwich and Leeds were quality the year before. What have we had in their place? Not a whole heap, Sheff Utd I believe will take time to adjust, I don't see much threat from either Scunny or Preston, esp. Scunny. I expected Wednesday to improve but their signings so far don't suggest they have. Hudders will always be up there until they go up, but frankly if we don't get promoted this season I'll be really worried because I can't see us playing in a weaker League 1 than this one. Of course, that's easy to say until kick-off...
Any league's a tough league when you play like we did last season. However that won't happen this season, we've bottomed out now and those teams who outplayed us last season, particularly those near the bottom, won't have that luxury any more. So the league will be easier!
As i mentioned in another thread..... Odds for next season... Currently... 'udd 11/2 Sheff Wed 6 Preston 7 Sheff U 9 Addicks 12 Oddschecker.com
One thing i've noticed is that since i posted the first odds some 2/3 weeks ago, we have come in from 12's to 8's for winning L1. Smart money eh?
