Indeed. However, the difference in wages that he'd have gotten on an improved contract paled in comparison to what he'd get with a move. Similar story now, but the gap isn't anywhere near as big...Spurs aren't going to shell out 150k p/w, so signing an improved deal (with a decent agent fee) now and then pushing for a transfer when the genuinely big clubs start poking around in a year or two is the best decision economically, methinks.
We need a few older, scarier players in the dressing room to fix all these babies' attitudes. A Joey Barton type, haha
Adam Hills used cockwomble in one of his rants on The last leg a couple of weeks ago......my wife thought it was a new word, so I had to explain that this forum has been using it for ages and that Hills was just catching up with the rest of us.
Cockwomble has been around for eons. I like the Collins' dictionary definition of it: http://www.collinsdictionary.com/submission/292/Cockwomble
He's the Kenyan The mighty Kenyan He'll drive us all insane He's the Kenyan The mighty Kenyan He's off to white hart lane A wanyama, a wanyama, a wanyama..... *joking*
I have to agree with Noah Leihberr (who is he by the way? grandson, nephew?) when he questions Sky accuracy. Perhaps once in a while they have a scoop, but generally they just repeat gossip....they even contradict themselves within a programme.
Always liked Joey Barton. I know that puts me in a minority of 1, but the boy has heart-and a sense of humour.
Wanyama has been our best player in the few matches we have played this season. I hate to think he would go. The speculation about him and Mane is bound to mount as these are the obvious choices of the kind of players who would improve any EPL squad. Other than Pele and perhaps Rodriguez and Forster when they are fit, I can't any other players in the current squad attracting much interest. Ward-Prowse may be the next decent player we produce. I think he is probably the most improved player in the squad on this season's performances . The new additions haven't really clicked but it is a shame that there are no real leaders or strong characters amongst them . Form what I have seen so far, they all look like capable squad players and not marque signings. Maybe investing a fewer and better players might have been more sensible as opposed to compiling a huge squad to cater for Europe? Can't see that many of these additions are actually an improvement on what we have already.
I learned something recently about Joey Barton and his childhood. He does and has done some awful things however, since hearing what I did recently, I understand why his head is blown. It doesn't condone any of it, but makes understanding him easier.
Let him do a Schneiderlin. Get another season out of him and then sell him to a CL club for top dollar. This will make some make space for Reed to come through the ranks. Also, can Tottenham please stop pretending they're a "big club"? Tottenham have been more or less on a par with us for the last two seasons and their transfer offers always take the biscuit. Losing players to the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Man U is one thing - it's not fun for us fans, but it is a step up for the players and we usually get well recompensed when it happens. £8M for Wanyama is patent nonsense.
It was only like that because we were big fish in those leagues. There was nowhere realistic for players to leave to. There was possibly the genuine chance of competing for something too, and the cult of Cortese. But other than that, players are really no different. When we were in the Championship, look how quickly our Academy players like Theo, Bale, and O-C jumped ship for big offers. When we were in League One, we were overwhelming favourites for the title, and certainly amongst the biggest wage payers. Players follow money - it's been said countless times on here, and it is probably the only piece of genuine, undisputed football fact ever spouted in earnest on this forum. So really what you want - and nothing wrong at all with this, btw - is to go to a safe, warm place where Southampton FC are the financial overlords, and we do the player poaching, not the other way round. The players don't become a different breed of person.
Well, that was drab, but a few highlights: 1. Fonte was back to his best. Thank God! I was getting worried. 2. Romeu looks like the real deal. Quality ball winner. 3. Cedric can take a lot of confidence from that. He can defend, after all. Downer? Wanyama. I love the man - and defend him often - but his distribution was shocking today and he was literally walking for the last five minutes.
I think you got the wrong thread there Spaced (and the wrong player - I thought Vic did well again today).
