Just watched Celtic highlights and VVD looks like a diamond among a bunch of turds in the Celtic defence...
Boyata put in a good shift, but he's not a ball player like Virgil. Their DM Nir Bitton looks good too.
Hopefully. I was bored earlier, so thought I'd do some research by going on some Celtic forums. Their fans rate him extremely highly, a lot of them were saying he's the best CB they've ever had.
http://www.irishmirror.ie/sport/soccer/transfer-news/southampton-win-transfer-race-virgil-6302516B won the race according to this.
Him being left out of their game today doesn't mean much - most of the team that played on Wednesday were rested.
"He is good enough to play in any position. If we put him up front, he would probably be our best striker. The lad is a pure footballer"." "He is easily good enough for Man United/Chelsea. I hope he doesn't go to a mid table side" Fans have been wrong before, but I found a 20-odd page thread, and there wasn't a single bad word about him
Tbf Celtic fans were saying that about Wanyama aswell, think it must be pretty easy to over rate your players if you are mainly watching them against inferior opposition
Well they weren't, no way Wanyama was /is good enough for a top team (I'm undecided at this moment in time, but when he first joined he definitely wasn't)
There's an awful lot there that's self preservation in that from Celtic fans - they don't want to see their players go to what they consider a small club in Southampton, because of what it says about them/their league.
Yeah that's true, I remember them saying he was the next Yaya Toure and we'd sell him for £30m the next season.
