People should just calm down. People who expect United to play like fergie's team should be patient. There is no way that LVG will play that way. We will have lots of possession (70-75%) , lots of passes. He is very risk averse and those who expect lots of attacking play leaving the defence vulnerable can forget it. Like I have said many times last season, there did/ does seem to be method in the madness. There will be more 1-0s than 5-3s
I don't think I personally rate the way United played after losing Ronaldo and Tevez. Yet people act like United played amazing football until Fergie's last day. People have short memory.
I thought we played well and attacked for periods with good free flowing football. The problem was that when that didnt work LVG had no answers. Replacing a RB for another RB, a defensive CM for another defensive CM and generally playing around Newcastle demonstrated that. It also highlights why we needs a top quality striker if Rooney is playing pants. I thought the performance was pretty good tbh. Some of our minor flaws I think will be ironed out as the season goes on, the team gels... and with a proper CF.
The passing has been much sharper in the last two games, we are now creating a good amount of chances and I can see us starting to get some decent scores in the next few weeks.
Yeh I agree, if we'd scored I would have been happy all round. My only bug bear is I think LVG's answer to our lack of scoring is to work the ball more. That doesnt help against teams that stick 10 men behind the ball. I really hope we buy a decent striker and then that wont be a problem anymore.
It does with the right players to split the defence. Herrera and Mata have to play together, forget position let them rotate as the situation builds, they are intelligent players and will sort who is where between them.
