Ha, in fairness his treatment was tamed by the fact he played for Sunderland. I believe his 'preparation' was for the 'chef*' to treat the ball of pizza dough being used for his pizza to its very own 'pre-seasoning tour' (let's keep the puns topical!).

The pre-seasoning tour was the standard treatment for a returning twat ordering a pizza. While the fresh dough was still a ball before baking it would start the pre-seasoning tour from the gutter out the back when the 'chefs*' would chain smoke and proceed for dough to be rolled on any surface or substance along the route back to the pizza bench deemed to be revolting. Bit of *** ash and mud from the yard then past the bogs via the 'chef's*' arse crack to be stonebaked in a wood oven for a 1% tipper.

    Mickey still tipped 20p.

Can't believe that was 15yrs ago. I was 17. To be fair none of us waiters would do any of this type of special prep or ask for it. The 'chefs*' would just scan the tables from the pass for a someone being a twat to the staff. If they overheard you talking about someone at the bar at the end of a shift as tipping a piss take they were in for it next time they showed up. One guy who worked on mains seemed to just do it if someone turned up in a suit. So if you ate there around 2000-2002 and were unlucky enough to be wearing a suit on a slow shift when he was in you probably benefited from special seasoning.

The basic rule was that nobody cared if someone didn't tip. Nobody cared if you left coppers which was just the change after your bill. You pissed of the staff when you would pay the exact amount or by card and then consciously leave under 50p. So you'd gone out of your way to tip what would typically be less than 2% than the bill............you cheap bastard! You were then a marked man, the idea being that such a frugal chap would appreciate the extra value that would be added to his next meal.

Of course, for reasons of slander and fallout from the 'restaurant**' and former customers, I'd like to go on record as saying I made this all up and none of it was true.

I've never understood this tipping bollocks.
Why the **** should I tip some **** because he's a waiter or a ****ing chef or barman?
They get paid to do their ****ing job don't they?
Taxi drivers are the same. If the fare comes to £4.70 of course I'd let them keep the change out of the fiver.
Not good enough? Tough ****ing **** plum.
Nee **** tipped me for any job I've ever done.
Shut the **** up & get on with it. Or get another job moaning bastards.

Have you ever worked in a bar/restaurant?

It's quite well known that the hospitality industry is poorly paid. Half the time people tip because they're taking pity on the (generally) young waiters/waitresses.

I always tip when it's appropriate - because I've been there doing the 70 hour weeks getting paid a pittance with no recognition for doing a good job from your gaffer.

And do you think machine operators in factories are any different?
They work shifts for minimum wage you plum. Nee **** tips them.
Care home workers, security guards, all low paid.
Next time you visit your granny in the old folks home are you gonna leave the carers a tip?
Does anybody tip the McDonalds, Burger King or KFC staff? No is the answer & I may well be wrong but I'll hazard a guess that those people aren't on £10 an hour.
Why should you be any different?
If you went in a pub & paid £3.40 for a pint would you give the barman 60p every time?

True, no problem with not tipping. It was just those that decided to make a point of using a tip to basically tell you they thought the whole experience was poor. Going out of your way to be critical of someone isn't a normal opportunity in most job roles. The vast majority of people in this world that I've met love to take offence if at all possible. There aren't many jobs where you can make a point of telling someone you thought they were personally poor at something and not get a reaction. Do it in a restaurant and you are doing it with people who have a way to get things balanced again in their head by doing something to you would be traumatised by (unless you've been part of a rugby league team) if you had any idea if was happening.

Not saying I gave a reaction. I never cared if people tipped or not. I also agree that you should get a different job or stop whinging if you say in your job. Frankies paid me something like £3.15 an hour as a 17yr old which was before you couldn't, as an employer, let tips make up the difference to the minimum wage. I needed tips to make minimum wage on that job so I left after about four months.

I don't always tip, but you've have to be incredibly **** for me not to tip, like forget the order or the food is burnt. Up to you if you don't tip, and all the reasons you mentioned about are totally valid and how it should be, but should be isn't reality. I'm not saying it is right but if you go to a place and you are a regular and you don't tip, you run the risk of having your reality being chef's piss in your soup. There are bell ends in every occupation on earth but not many of them have the ability to feed you the contents of their nose on a whim (very mild) if they don't like the colour shirt you are wearing. Having worked in a restaurant I'll always tip anything from lacklustre through to great service because I don't want to piss off the wrong guy and drink his piss. I wasn't the wrong guy but I think they are in every restaurant.

I`m with Billy on this one.

A tip is an extra for a very good service. If I order a meal and a waiter brings it I don`t see that as special. It`s not my fault they`re on low wages. So are thousands of shop assistants.

If a service charge is included why should I be expected to tip twice? I`m already tipping whether I want to or not.

I never tip when a service charge is included. It annoys me when a restaurant takes the choice from the customer. If I had a restaurant I'd charge more, not call it a service charge, and pay the staff a better wage. I'd make a point of telling customers not to tip. I think more people would go to that restaurant. A big ball ache with tipping is also that I very rarely have change. Nandos have it right, no tipping expected or implied because you pay first. It's a far more relaxed experience.

So thats two people on here who've worked in hospitality openly admitting that food is deliberately contaminated because the paying customer hasn't subsidised their 'low pay'. well I find that not only ****ing disgusting but pathetic & pitiful.
I am in no doubt though that it's common practice, no wonder I rarely eat out.
If these ****s aren't happy with the wages then don't take the ****ing job. Simple really. Filthy bastards.

Tipping culture is bonkers here! Was told i was sposed to tip a delivery man. **** that

I tip heavy (25% for excellent service 20% for good and less for less but never less then 10%), but only in restaurants/bars. There paycheck is generally only $2.13 an hour. Some of the kids can bank in the summer , i know i did $5-600 nights were pretty common, flipside in the winter work all night for $5

Sunderland legend Micky Gray has been banned from the club after scathing remarks made about chairman Ellis Short, who disputes his claims he has lied to the fans.

Gray spent 12 years with the Black Cats and witnessed their poor performance against Norwich first-hand last week as a part of talkSPORT’s commentary team.

He later delivered a damning assessment of the players and Short, but it has now been revealed he is ‘no longer welcome’ at the club following the tirade, while the chairman would like him to ‘admit he was wrong.’

Short has hit back at criticism of his stewardship of the club and a claim that he has been "lying" to supporters in his programme notes for their game against Swansea City.

Sections of the home crowd chanted "Are you watching, Ellis Short?" during last Saturday's 3-1 home defeat by Norwich, while former defender Gray later accused the American of failing to see through promises to invest in the squad.

However, Short refuted claims that he lacks ambition for the club and insisted he has not short-changed fans.

Writing ahead of Saturday's home clash with Swansea, Short said: "Regarding last Saturday's match, to answer the question asked of me, yes, I was watching. Also, like many of you, I 'left early', turning off the TV after the third goal and going for an angry walk.

"I normally don't respond to criticism, but based on some recent comments, I feel that there are some points I need to address for the benefit of the fans.

"First of all, no one who knows me or knows anything about me would say that I have no ambition for the club. That ambition certainly has not been realised yet, but it does not mean that I don't have it.

"Secondly, the assertion that I have been unwilling to spend money to fulfil the ambitions of the club and its fans is completely wrong. Every penny that comes from TV income and other commercial activities is spent on operating the club - that is, buying players, wages, and other associated costs.

"I have never taken money out of the club. In fact, I have funded significant shortfalls each and every season."

Indeed, Short claimed that without his cash, Sunderland would have been in even worse trouble.

He said: "Since I have been involved, the good news is that my investment has kept us in the Premier League for nine consecutive seasons. The bad news is, for the amount of money spent, we should be better than we are and no one knows that more than me.

"Has the money been spent effectively? No - that much is clear and ultimately that is my fault. But it is not a result of a lack of ambition or commitment.

"To date this summer, we have committed £21.5m in transfer fees and remain hopeful that there is still more business to be done before the window closes on September 1.

"Finally, Michael Gray made quite a serious accusation claiming that I have lied to supporters. I have not. Michael Gray should admit that he was wrong."

Waiters and chefs aren't a special new breed of people. Put any group of people in that same role and I bet 20% of them would end up stirring your your salad dressing with their dicks. Go and piss off your doctor or lawyer or builder, or mechanic and see if you get the same level of service. People are just people. The minority of people are egotistical vindictive bastards and the majority would take themselves seriously enough to take personal offense but not do anything about it. I never used to do anything to customers at all because I really don't take myself seriously, but the restaurant was rife with it. Not all kitchens will be this way at all but go somewhere where the average age of the staff responsible for your food is under 25 and piss them off in anyway and you are asking for special treatment. Yep they are a bunch of dirty bastards but the reality is you've got to be choosy where you eat, be nice to people or not eat out at all if you want to avoid issues. Sad but the unfortunate truth.

Heard a rumour but not surprising if true.

    a). He`s a tit.
    b). He went too far.
c). Of all the papers it had to be Mikes Mouthpiece who latched onto it with obvious glee. Further proof of a).

No doubt the Daily Ashley will have plenty to say.

I find the banning of Micky Gray very petty & pathetic.
Short is lowering himself to Ashley's standards.
What, like people aren't allowed an opinion now?
Have we become part of the Soviet Union?
**** me - if they banned everybody who criticized the way the club was run 80% of us on here wouldn't get in the stadium.
I'm glad Shorty has come out with a statement but it impressed me not one jot.
